Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

He was dominant in college football a couple of years ago, and he just kind of disappeared. His stats are paltry at best, and he doesn't even get that many carries a game.
I remember when people here were saying he should be Denver's next "TD".
He just scored the 51st touchdown of his career like 2 minutes ago. A school record.
But the insight you look for is simple:
Ian has basically taken a more supporting role in the running game as of late, especially this season. Last season he had a mediocre year just in general.
This year we've got a nice running tandem with at least 3 different backs, including our new guy Avery, who I believe is a true freshman. He's been stealing Ian's spotlight lately.
I told my grandpa during the Southern Miss game that if he's not careful, Ian's going to end up losing his job to either Avery or the other guy (can't remember his name).
I think he had a lot of hype in '07 because he had a stellar season. And it was topped off by his performance in front of a national audience during the Fiesta Bowl. But since then he's just been average. I mean, he still does his job and contribute a great deal (like tonight against the Spartans).
If he wants a shot at the NFL though, his senior season better be a repeat or better of his '07 campaign. Maybe gettin' married messed him up. hahahaha.
But basically everyone was talking about him because of the Fiesta Bowl etc. Now we're not in the spotlight as much so no one talks about him.
I think he still has a shot at playing in the pros. But I doubt he'll get drafted at this point.

Pure system running back. He seems like a really nice guy and all but he doesn't really have skills that stand out.
Nah, he's got moves all his own. He's a good back. I would agree our system does help him, but he would be a great running back on any other team as well.
People weren't sure about Clady either just because he's from BSU and they forgot that Denver runs the same zone-blocking scheme that BSU does, and so far... Clady is a huge reason, if not the main reason Cutler's been so well protected this season.
Also, as far as people saying they wanted Ian in Denver, BSU's system would only serve to help Ian if he did indeed end up in Denver since they're scheme is pretty similar (i.e. Clady's excellent adaptation).
Doug Martin (the true freshman. i was wrong on Avery):
YEAR ATT YDS AVG LNG
2008 7 23 3.3 12
Proj. 14 46 3.3 12
So that might explain Johnson's decline in performance. He's got three other guys doing just as good a job as he is doing. Combined the four of them are pretty great. Martin's having a good year, although I know his numbers don't look it. Watching him during the So. Miss game he and Avery both looked better than Johnson.
I hope that helps. Or at least was fun to read. haha.
(also that's stupid. i spent all that time spacing out all the stats to make it easier to read and it didn't work. )
