We actually ran the option 2 or 3 times with cutler and selvin out of the shotgun last year.
Pro teams will probably never fully incorporate the option in their game plan due to high risk of injury. No team is willing to run the option with their starting quarterback that is being payed big $$$$. Defenses are too fast, and defensive linemen are too talented to bite on that kind of thing. Now i would be willing to draft a young fast kid with option experience and make a package for him. Find a guy that wants to play QB in the NFL that other teams want to move to a different position.
Just for the record, G-tech's style of option isn't the only "triple option". Most spread teams run the triple option, but usually its out of the zone-read with the option to hand off, run the QB or pitch to a WR. So many variations of it. Florida ran it about 8 times yesterday against Florida State. I know what you meant though, nice to see the classic wing formations coming back.
