  • The So-Called "BCS Championship Game" ...

... now lacks relevance and the entire BCS "system" is shown to be seriously flawed.

The BCS has provisions for allowing a "non-BCS team" to play in a BCS Bowl Game, but none for considering an undefeated non-BCS team for the "championship".

Utah is undefeated at 13-0 and is the only undefeated 1-A/FBS team in the country the other one (Boise State) having been defeated by TCU (another Mountain West Powerhouse).

The Utes defeated Michigan in the largest seating capacity football stadium in the US (world?). Southern Cal's only loss was to Oregon State whom the Utes defeated. The Mountain West isn't weak as some "experts" have suggested. Check who has beaten whom for the past 5-7 seasons; it's interesting. Utah, BYU and TCU aren't the only tough football schools in the conference.

Now Alabama, undefeated in the amazing SEC until the conference championship game, not only loses to undefeated Utah, they get rolled, embarrassed, smashed, even toyed with.

I'm not even going to watch the game on Thursday because it's irrelevant. Neither Oklahoma nor Florida is undefeated. Florida lost to Ole Miss and the Sooners were soundly beaten by Texas on a neutral field. It can only be hoped that those who vote in the polls used by the BCS in their "formula" will vote Utah as #1. Anything else is silly, prejudiced and unrealistic given the current set of circumstances (sine playoffs).

I think Utah could give OU or Florida a tough game, just like a couple of years ago with Boise State.

It could be a heck of a game. Maybe I'm biased, but I just don't see Utah beating Urban with his system that he taught all of their coaches. But then again different wrinkles have been added I'm sure. Utah played lights out, I don't know if anybody could have stopped them that night!

And to the guy who posted first about not watching Thursday night, I hope you don't watch it! I'm sure one person boycotting will show them!

What happened happened. They probably should change the system, but the BCS was renewed a few years ago. It's not going to change for a while, so you might as well just take it how it happens and enjoy it. This year it benefited UF and OU, last year OSU and LSU. I think the auto-bids are reviewed after the 2010 season, and chances are the MWC will get an one. Don't forget that the AP votes for who they feel is the national champion after all the bowl games are complete. If they feel Utah is really the top team in the country they will be voted so.

Tonight should be a good game, but the UTAH UTES are the only legitimate national champions this year. There is simply no reasonable argument against the Utes as #1.

We could go on forever about who should have won the Big 12 South, so how can we say Oklahoma belongs in the natiional championship game? Remember, Oklahoma lost to Texas, which lost to Texas Tech, which lost to Oklahoma. It is impossible to imagine not having a Big 12 South team in the BCS title game, but only because three of those teams looked like the best in the country and only lost to each other. On the other hand, how many ranked teams did Boise State and Utah play? True, they did finish the regular season undefeated, but did they have stronger opponents than the Big 12 South teams that lost one? Definitely not. That is why they put a Big 12 South team in the BCS NCG: The Sooners, Longhorns, and Red Raiders all had harder schedules than the teams with better records.

I am not saying Oklahoma belongs in the national championship game because many fans think Texas should have gone there instead for a good reason. But, if you think about it, who would want to watch Utah and Boise State? Do you want to watch them? Who would not prefer to watch Oklahoma/Florida?

By the way, Florida lost only because an extra point try to force overtime was blocked so the Gators have a good reason to say they belong in the BCS NCG.

Well, the big news here in Utah is they are going to file a suit against the BCS for antitrust violations. Doubt they get anywhere.

I think the BCS should drop the Big East's auto bid and put in the MWC unless the Big East really shows us something next year. Im not saying that Cincy winning it has shown that the Big East has gotten really weak lately, but Cincy winning it has shown that the Big East has gotten really weak lately (actually its got more competitive in its mediocrity since Miami, VT, and BC left).

But the MWC had 3 teams that won over 10 games. The BE had Cincy. Every bowl qualifier in the MWC had at least a .500 conference record. UCONN and SF went 3-4 and 2-5 respectively in their conference play. And im pretty sure almost all of the MWC bowl qualifiers couldve beat Cincy or Pitt (Air Force could give em a good game and Colorado St could be good). I dont think theres a single BE team that could beat BYU, Utah, or TCU.
