If the Senate decides the BCS is a monopoly or violates racketeering, or anti-trust laws, and caters only to certain schools, of which I'm sure they could find something somewhere in the legal areas where a violation is taking place, and could come up with some criminal charges or use it as leverage to force the BCS to indoctrinate a playoff system.

there is a long history of Pac 10, Big 12, SEC and Big 10 Schools getting to play for titles, but how many Sunbelt, Big East, Mountain West, and other smaller conferences do you see getting a crack at the National Championship Game? None!

The BCS is exclusive of putting smaller lesser conferences in the Title game because of television ratings & money. The BCS discriminates against those smaller teams, and it's clearly evident the past 20+ years. But it is pre-dominantly inclusive of putting the SEC, Big 12, Big 10, and PAC 10 in the championship game.

Not only that but how many other sports have ever had a Co-National Champion? Whoever heard of such an absurd thing? that's ridiculous.

They need to have a 30 team playoff format, scrap the Conference Championship games. 30 teams with the best record, go to the playoffs plain and simple. Every team plays 10 regular season games, and up to a possible 5 post season games.

Regular Season games start the first week of September and run through the 2nd week of November.

Every team gets 1 week off to prepare for the playoffs, and then the games start the 4th week of November, and each week thereafter until you have two teams remaining. They get a bye week, and then play on New Years Day for the Championship.

4th week of November- Week 1 Wildcard - 28 Teams/14 Games (#1 and #2 have a bye week)
1st week of December - Week 2 - 16 Teams/8 Games
2nd week of December - Week 3 - 8 Teams/4 Games
3rd week of December - Week 4 - 4 Teams/2 Games
January 1st - Week 5 - 2 Teams/National Championship Game (true Champ crowned after the game is over)

Since the BCS started back in the 98-99 season the national championship game has had a representative from the SEC a total of 5 times. The Big 12 has had a rep a total of 6 times. The Pac 10 has had a rep a total of 2 times (both USC in consecutive years). The Big East has had a rep a total of 3 times (Miami and Va Tech back when they were in the Big East. there have been none since). The ACC has had a rep a total of 3 times (FSU in 3 consecutive years). And the Big 10 has had a rep a total of 3 times (all OSU).

So yeah I'd agree that they favor the Big 12 and SEC teams.

The last "non-BCS team" to win a National Championship was BYU back in 1984.

finals week - well you could allow them to take it early, or allow them to take it later. either way, it's a challenge, but like any challeng it's meant to be overcame. plus, they can take it in between games anyhow.

The top 30 teams. - Well you could do it one of 2 ways. Realign all the conferences, and make it to where there are only 10 conferences. Top 3 teams in each conference go to the playoffs.

Or you spread it out to 15 conferences, and the top 2 teams from each conference go to the playoffs.

or you just take the Top 30 teams in the nation with the best record go to the playoffs. ok, yes the Rankings system will still be there, but it really won't have any impact on what teams make the playoffs and what teams don't. it'll kinda be comparable to Pete Priscoe's Power Rankings that he posts up over on CBS Sportsline during the regular season. Then you have the traditional tie breakers, based on conference record, pts, etc, whatever, you get the drift. that way you don't have the stupid media picking who goes to the playoffs and who doesn't, which is part of the problem with the system right now, with the media and the ranking system (but that's another discussion for another day).

I'd also be in favor of the NCAA generating the schedules, and each conference plays each other kinda like the NFL. That way schools can't schedule easy schedules, you just get what you get, and you go play. Coaches and AD's should have no more say so in who they schedule and who they don't. Everyone plays everyone at some point.

Everyone acts (or acted) like when he gets in office he would actually be able to change it! The night before Election Day, during the MNF halftime show Chris Berman did something unusual: He asked both presidential nominees -Obama first, McCain after a commercial - the same questions. One of them (naturally) was, "If you could change one thing in sports, what would it be?"

Obama answered, "College football," and said something about creating a playoff format to determine a true national champion. (John McCain's response was related to the steroid problem.)

Later, in his first interview since winning the election, Obama said on 60 Minutes, which is the first CBS show after most NFL games are over, what kind of playoff he wants. I did not hear it, but read he said it should have a three-game bracket.

So it is pretty easy to see how millions of football fans suddenly get excited about the possibillity there will be a college football playoff. As president, Obama will have the power to write an executive order - a document that has the power of a law but does not go through Congress for approval - to change it. He could write an executive order to get rid of all the bowls and start a three-game playoff and if bowl games still are scheduled for the next season, the schedule makers could be arrested and fined.

There are 3 problems i see, that i'm sure could be taken care of pretty easily, just want to hear your opinion on how they would do it. 1) finals week? Is there any way to allow the schools to make that money elsewhere? Maybe how they do it in college basketball, have the BIG tournament, and then a smaller one for teams that didn't make it?

I don't know, maybe just diarreah coming out of my mouth and I'm thinking too far into it (especially when it probably wont change), or not looking at "easy" fixes to the situation. Or maybe i'm just not mad enough at the current system because Florida has gotten to the championship game twice in the last three years. I'm sure if they would have been kept out I would have thought of a good system like the one you came up with.

Too bad they couldn't keep all the other bowls to let the cities, schools, and sponsors make money, and just add an 8 team playoff on top of it. The BCS contract was renewed a couple years ago, and runs out in a few more... here's hoping for them to get their heads out of their butts and do what everyone wants!

For years, just about everone that follow sports have said they want a Playoff to determin the National Championship, and they all agree it will be tough if not impossable to pull of. Not even President Elect Obama will br able to force a change unless one thing happens...

And I don't think college sports fans have the stomach to do what it takes to FORCE the Admin and Bowls to change there thinking.



Here is what HAS to happen. Everyone needs to stop watching the Bowl games. Stop going to them. Don't talk about them, or the results untill a playoff system is started. The only way to make them see the light is to hit them where it hursts, the pocket book. I gaurentte you, that if the staidum for Thursday nights game was empty, and the ratings where lower then Phillip Rivers IQ the message would be heard loud and clear the we reject the BCS and will not execpt anything less then a REAL National Championship.

So who is with me.....

BOYCOTT THE BCS AND ALL BOWL GAMES!!!!!!!
