Nothing like tickets going on Sale for this game right in the middle of the football drought.

This is one game that I look forward to year round. As a CSU fan im always looking forward to next year as soon the the game is over. The close losses the past few years have been hard to take but every year im optomistic about the Rams in Fort Collins.

This year the Rams feature the most experienced line in NCAA Div 1. Thier combined starts lead the nation. They got better every game of the year last year and capped off the season(New Mexico Bowl) opening lanes for Gartrell Johnson(San Deigo Chargers) for 285 yrds Rushing on the day.

The Rams return all starters at WR, and have an excellent group coming up that should challenge last years starters for playing time.

A starter at QB hasn't been named coming out of Spring ball for the Rams. When Kubiac comes back from surgery he maybe starting against the Buffs. Having a wealth of experiece on the O-Line and at WR will help the new Rams QB.

Im looking forward to breakdowns of each team in the weeks to come and the trash talk heating up.

I will pay the money only because it's that much better if and when the Rams beat them in thier own house. (Montana State x 1000)

I 100% agree that this game should be played in Denver every year. It brings in 20,000+ more fans to the game and the atmosphere is like no other in Colorado.

Does anyone remeber the 2003 Lightning game at Invesco? Best atmosphere to a game I ve been too....much louder then any Broncos game.

Next year it's the Rams move and I won't be surprised if they change the game from Fort Collins to Denver.

csu fans would rather play the game at invesco than at their high school stadium. playing at invesco every year is like giving csu the home game every year. why should we cater to the lesser team? it doesn't make sense. we should play half the games at folsom field and half the games at invesco, that would be fair. noone wants to play at hughes, which is why your AD scheduled the next game at invesco when he could have moved it to hughes.

No. What I'm talking about is Mike Bohn getting in a tissy because CU didn't schedule the correct number of home games (Blame him and Hawkins for that, although some would agree they did it on purpose.) so he is taking his ball and going home. Both AD's for the school think the game should be played in Denver

Both athletic directors believe playing the game in Denver at Invesco Field at Mile High each year is best for the financial health of their departments. Making it happen every year during a 10-year agreement is tricky.

The reason CSU's AD wants the game to be in Denver is better financial outcomes for both schools.

The reason Hawkins wants CU to play them at Folsom?

"Anytime you can play at home it's great. It doesn't matter if it's basketball or football, playing on the road is tough," CU head coach Dan Hawkins said. "Although for us it's a quasi-neutral environment at Denver, it's not your home spot. So I think there's always a little bit of a comfort level playing at home, no question. From that standpoint, it should be fun."

The game should be in Denver every year. That is what the AD's agreed on after the 2005 season, and now Mike Bohn(head) is going back on his word to stroke his (inept)coach's ego.

And, about playing the game in Denver every year is like "Giving CSU the home game every year":
More tickets are reserved for CU than CSU. I think its 55% tickets to CU and 45% to CSU.


Also, quick quip from a Texas fan:

The RRS, now called the RRR, has been in Dallas since 1912. Both schools understand that Rivalry at a neutral site is more exciting than their AD's getting in pissing matches because they might lose if they play somewhere else.

I quoted in my last post about how Hawkins was crying because they didn't play the game at home, and he thinks their home games should be at home because playing on a neutral field isnt like playing at home (doing my whining impression here).

What did he say about the matchup in Denver before he and Bohnhead screwed the schedule pooch?

"I'm one of those guys that's like, if Mike tells me we're playing in Aspen in two feet of snow, we'll play in Aspen in two feet of snow," Hawkins said. "I think the environment here is awesome. Playing in the Denver Metro area is awesome. I think that is a huge, huge draw. But I don't really get caught up in the semantics of it. ... You better just show up and give it your best."

And in the same article, when CU wasn't doing so hot, after the Barnett catastrophe? When the school needed money, and for people to get excited about CU football again?

"We really needed a leadership team of leaders in Denver to embrace it and be passionate about the game and to really want it to be special," CU athletic director Mike Bohn said. "We felt like in the past a little bit of that element was missing. So we really reached out to the Metro Denver Sports Commission to say, 'You know what, we need you guys and we want you to be excited about this.'"

Wow. He NEEDS them, huh? Sounds to me like CU is biting the hand that fed them.

i'm still not understanding why CU shouldn't be allowed to play their games where they want. none of your comments actually addressed this point. the AD decided it was more beneficial to play the game at folsom field this year so that's where we are playing. the agreement between the schools is that this year, CU can choose to play at folsom or at invesco and next year CSU can choose to play at invesco or hughes. i don't understand what bohn has done wrong

I addressed that point exactly.

I'll put it simpler. CU football was swirling the drain, so he begged the Denver Metro sports bureau to save his program by hosting the game at Invesco. As soon as interest picked back up for CU, he took his ball and went home.

THAT is what he did wrong. He finagled and schmoozed his way into the idea of another big in state rivalry at a neutral site (which is closer to Boulder than Ft. Collins, by the way) and as soon as he could he backed out of it.

He lied to people telling them he wanted a big game with a big draw at Invesco to help both schools out, fiscally, and as soon as his program had drummed up more interest, he pulled the carpet out from under CSU.

It's stupid, its cowardly, and its wrong.
I hope CSU stomps the dog piss out of the Buffs at Folsom, just to watch Bohn and Hawkins try to wipe the egg off of their faces.

tickets gone

As of Monday night CSU's allotted tickets for the game are now gone.

I believe they had 3,000 total. That little corner of the stadium will be a madhouse.

Still sad that CSU has had trouble selling it's 30,000 tickets the last 2 years at INVESCO.

CSU fans who were waiting to purchase tickets to the Sept. 6 football opener at the University of Colorado in Boulder will have to wait a bit longer now.

Colorado State University has sold all 3,000 tickets in its allotment for the game, school officials announced Tuesday.

"We went into (Monday) night with about 35 remaining, and those sold out online overnight," said Gary Ozzello, CSU's senior associate athletic director for external operations.

CU expects to have additional tickets available at $65 apiece when it begins single-game sales Aug. 3. Those tickets can be purchased online at www.CUBuffs.com or by calling (800) 87-BUFFS (2-8337) or (303) 49-BUFFS (2-8337). According to CU officials, there will not be a waiting list.

Folsom Field, CU's on-campus stadium, seats 53,750.

Ozzello said CSU set aside 800 of its allotted tickets for the marching band and complimentary tickets available to administrators, players and coaches for their families. About 1,000 of the remaining tickets were purchased by Ram Club members and CSU season-ticket holders before sales to the general public began July 6.

"We're excited they sold out that quickly," Ozzello said.

This year's CSU-CU game is being played at 5 p.m. on a Sunday night to accommodate a national television broadcast on Fox Sports Net.

Next year's game between CSU and CU will be played at CSU's Hughes Stadium, which seats 34,400. CU's ticket allotment for that game also will be 3,000. Talks are under way to move the game back to Denver's Invesco Field at Mile High in future years, but no agreement has been reached, Ozzello said.

The Rams and Buffs have played 81 games against each other in a series that began in 1893. Nine of the past 11 games have been played in Denver, where 69,619 fans were on hand a year ago for a 38-17 CU win in Steve Fairchild's debut as CSU's coach. The Rams went on to a 7-6 season, capped by a New Mexico Bowl win over Fresno State. CU finished 5-7.

I've only been to one game at folsum, and will never go back, i thought it blew a big fat one. You park in some ally, or pay to park at a circle K, and then tailgate with 2-3 of your favorite hippies, but can't congregate anywhere of size becuase you may fall in the creek or get run over by a bike, because any open space is on the bike trail. Then go to the game, where the seats only fit 1/2 a butt cheek, and you can't stand up and cheer or some slack wearing 50 year old guy wearing loafers and no socks tells you to sit down, I'd rather have been at a 6 year old's soccer match. We left by the second quarter, and went to the walrus.

CSU's bomb shelter, concrete mega structure may not be the hottest venue going, but at least you can tailgate, there is space, parking and plenty of viewing, and even on the "adults" side everyone is watching the game and having a good time, plus you could still buy beer.

the first year at mile high was the funnest (98), it was a night/evening game, and we had a line of cars headed down at about 9:30 in the morning. I think they decided after that year to never have it be a night game to limit the "tailgating" time - ohhhhh the memories.

If i'm not mistaken the first year it was played at a nutral sight it was because Neheissel, and Lubick (and respective AD's) were looking for press coverage, and to heighten the rivalry. Other than concenting to have it every year in boulder, the only other way to get telivised contracts was to have it at mile high.

The first year was a huge success, the next year CSU rallied and the rivalry was on. Then CSU won in the new stadium and the big bad cops tear gassed the chearleaders and band. Then less and less tickets have been available to the students that spend all their money to actually get to watch the game. Corporate sponsers began dictating what could and couldn't happen, how many tickets each team can have etc, and the schools wanted to take it back so the could get control of it again. 76,000 seats and i think 3-4000 tickets were given to each school, or something crazy low like that.
