  • 2001 Miami Hurricanes: team of decade (Portis, DJ Williams, Myers) - greatest ever?

My co-worker said he saw something.... not sure where.... about the 2001 Miami Hurricanes being the team of this decade. I skimmed the roster, and now I wonder if it was the greatest of all time? Maybe not in sustained dominance, but certainly in quanity and quality of future NFL players. I think I counted 23 pro players and 13 pro bowlers.

Want a RB? How about Clinto Portis, Frank Gore, Najeh Davenport & Willis McGahee.

Need a TE? How about Jeremy Shockey or Kellen Winslow.

Seeking a WR? Andre Johnson and Roscoe Parrish.

OL aint too shabby either: Vernon Carey, Chris Myers, Bryant Mckinnie and Carlos Joseph.

CHECK OUT THIS SECONDARY: Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, Antrel Rolle & Mike Rumph (with Phillip Buchanon).

DJ Williams and Jonathon Vilma are pretty good LBs, right.

The DL had their guys as well: Vince Wilfork, William Joseph & Jerome Mcdougle.

ANYWAY.... This is sort of Bronco related.... We had a few of these 'Canes. Still have DJ! Just thought we could take a break from Orton, Marshall and Mcd. Discuss something fun.

Yeah, by far the most talented roster in college football history. The only thing more amazing than their talent was how fast it went downhill...lol

        01 Canes

They are the best team of the decade for one year, and, I think that Miami should have won the first three National Championships of the new century. They were ripped off by the BS system in 2000, and they should have beaten the Buckeyes in 2002. A lot of people like the 95 Huskers as the best ever, but the 01 Canes had more talent, and were even more dominant.

If I had to pick a team of the whole 00's, however, it would be USC.

Yeah, the early 2000's Canes were no joke. They were much like the USC teams of the past few years churning out pro after pro.

As much as it pains me to say it, that 95 Nebraska team was the best I have ever seen. Unfortunately, I saw it first hand at Folsom Field. Best Team Ever.

Another team that had an all star lineup was the 97 Tennessee Volunteers (Manning, Jamal Lewis, Al Wilson, Marcus Nash, Cedric Wilson, Peerless Price, Shaun Ellis etc..). They got steam-rolled by Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. Goes to show that you can have all the talent in the world, but if you have a fool-proof system, you can beat just about anybody.
We are going with Plan A

For my money it would be the 2003-04-05 USC Trojans, they had exceptional talent that I think would rival that Miami team. Although when you look at both teams closely the Trojans had more success during their run but their talent ended up having way less success in the pros.

I think Leonard Little was on that squad as well, no.

That bowl game was one of the most exciting I have seen. If only McGahee didn't get that freakish injury (straight-up wobbling broken leg)

Oh man, that Nebraska team was amazing. I remember how they absolutely crushed Florida (who was also dominating people) in their bowl game.

I don't know, outside of Leinart and Bush they've put out some amazing players.

Yes he was! Amazing overall talent for the Vols.
