  • Hey CU fans, waddya think?

Mike Shannahan, as CU's head coach?

I am not saying it would happen, but I thought about it today and I don't see a reason why it couldn't. Shanny has flirted with college jobs before, or at least has been mentioned(florida numerous times). He loves Colorado and in fact still resides here. The people of Colorado love him, by a huge margin I would guess.

He could recruit like crazy I think, and his running game would be awesome in college IMHO.

I honestly think it would be a perfect fit. Shanny is getting a little older and college, it is fairly well known, doesn't command the same kind of hours that the Pros do. And, if Shanny could turn that program around they would make Holidays in celebration of his awesomeness, erect statues, hell they might just rename the state in his honor.

Not likely to happen, but I thought it was an interesting idea.

I'm not a CU fan or anything, but...

Not likely to ever happen, but I think if Mike Shanahan was committed, he could do some serious damage. He'd reopen the pipelines to Texas and CA and would have kids drooling to play for a coach that already has two SB rings as a HC, NFL connections and coached such players like Elway and TD. He'd steal a lot of players from Texas, USC, UCLA and Oklahoma just because his name and where he's been before would outweigh what the other four have done.

Realistically though...I'm hearing CU doesn't even have enough money to buy out Hawkins right now, so the chance of Shanny going there is a fun and interesting thought, but yea.. that's all it is.

I'm sure any other school in the country would have booted Hawkins out the door by now, and the fact that CU hasn't shows just how much the school has trouble keeping up with everyone else. Ron Prince was fired by KSU at the end of last season and his record in three years was actually better than Hawkins' was, yet Hawkins gets an extension.

      It just doesn't add up...lol.

        The Mountain West ...

... might consider a bid from CU to join their conference.

          I don't know...

CSU already beat them, BYU and Utah would probably slaughter them...maybe more like the MAC? lol.

Thanks for the info Spyder. I didn't know about the schools money trouble.

You're dead on about the recruiting though, he would knock it out of the park in that regard. And he could get all those smaller O-Linemen that other schools may not want as much and still have a damn potent running game.

I'd be a new CU fan then. Second to the Irish of course.

There's absolutely no way I'd be able to watch a CU game but w/e Shanahan is the man.

It wont happen. Hawkins would be due a ton of money to get canned, and as it is CU's Athletic department is 8 million dollars in debt trying to pay off a loan from the university. Whether they want Hawkins or not their stuck until 2012 or until they get some revenue back and can afford to fire him. But with this economy that wont happen anytime soon.

It would be amazing. In state recruits would trip over themselves to come here, and a lto more big names would be looking our way, especially offensive players. It would reinvigorate the fan base (especially the boosters), and he could probably get more donations for the program.

Sadly though it wont happen. CU owes back too much money for getting rid of Barnett, and would owe too much from getting rid of Hawk. Im also not certain that Shanny wants to head to colleeg at this point. I think he wants to go to another pro team, and prove he still has it (and that it wasnt just John).

The best us CU fans can hoep for now is Hawk to get things turned right now, finish up nonconference on a positive upswing, and then take a couple in conference play that were probably expected to lose now.

I think Ben Tate will be the best back taken in the 2010 draft. (5/3/10)

The school might not have the money, but the boosters do. Don't be surprised if by the end of the year the boosters step up and put up the money to get rid of him.

I think Shannahan would be a good fit.

The boosters wouldnt be able to come up with the money that CU needs. CU is in serious financial trouble.

On the other hand I dont see how CSU isnt they have been spending money like crazy with new buildings weight rooms and what not.

I know that they're in serious trouble, but why? I never really understood it, you think for a Big 12 team they'd have enough money to atleast keep their heads above water. But it seems like the Buffs are just way in over their head.

Not enough boosters? Not enough donations?

                          Found this on the situation.

The athletic department remains in deeply in debt with the majority of an $8 million loan from the campus and the CU system in 2006 still to be paid off. Part of that debt was caused by the last coaching change when Bohn fired Gary Barnett at the end of the 2005 season and hired Hawkins.

CU was heavily criticized for having to pay Barnett approximately $4 million when it fired him. The terms of Barnett's contract, negotiated by former athletic director **** Tharp, required the settlement, and that led to CU trying to limit its obligations in Hawkins' contract.

I bet Hawk and his boy regret that move...........

                            we don't miss you Dan.

also Shanny would pretty much pull in players no matter where he coached, i think.

Fun to think about....would never happen.

Mike's got not interest in the college ranks.

                              How bout Darrien Hagan?!!
