  • Am I Too Small to Play Football?

I'm 5' 2" and about 110-112 lbs in high school. I want to play football so I can better understand some of the plays that go on with football. I know that Darren Sproles is short and so are a few other players in the NFL but even they are a lot bigger than I am. [Hope I put this in the right section, but I thought since it was football it was good enough to post.]

I'm decently strong, but I'm going to start lifting in the weight room. So can I do it?

You can do anything you set your mind to.

Conventionally though, yes, you are too small to play football.

Does your high school have a no cut policy??

If so I'm sure you can be on the team.

Are you a freshman? Do they have a lightweight/heavyweight teams?

No, just JV and Varsity. I'd obviously be on JV and I'm a junior, just exceptionally short for mah age.

No such thing as too small as long as you have a work ethic.

                I was a 6'0" 95lb freshman 2 and a half years ago, now I'm 6'1" and 215.

Lifting and eating. Stick to it. Don't stop.

Well yeah, our school says you can't lose more than X % body fat (I think it's something like you can't go below 5% body fat) but other than that there aren't too many different teams unfortunately.

height and weight are only a small part of being a good player....can you run? catch? block? can you memorize a playbook? i know plenty of 6'3 220 guys that are horrible ball players

Run? I take too small steps. Catch? I have decent hands most of the time. I can memorize a playbook pretty well.

Yeah, but how many 112 lber high school football players do you know?

If you do play then the coaches will have you hit the weight room everyday for a few hours to build you up. The high school I went to our starting tailback was maybe 5'7 160lbs and he rushed for 2000 plus yards. The reason I say maybe is he was more like 5'6 but he was fast as hell. Basically if he got open field he would take to the house.
