  • best college football team of all time

name your best college football team ever assembled, for one single season not a program. for me (being the homer that i am ) i am going to have to go with the 1995 Nebraska cornhuskers.

never have i seen a team so dominate in my life, every team they played that year had absolutely no chance and was a blowout victory.

The Cornhuskers outscored their opponents 638-174 for an average final of 53-14.

the huskers absolutely destroyed 3 top 10 teams that year, Kansas st.(#8)49-25, Colorado(#7)44-21, and kansas(#10)41-3..... as well as Florida the #2 team in the nation, in the national championship game 62-24

the closet team to beating them that year was Washington State who trailed Nebraska 28-7 after three quarters then finishing them 35-21

Temple, it's gotta be Temple. Any year it doesn't matter, just as long as it's Temple.

      All you need to know

Prior to the 2006 Rose Bowl, ESPN's SportsCenter ran a special in which the 2005 USC Trojans, led by stars Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, and LenDale White, were compared with the greatest college teams of the past 50 years, as picked by sports fans voting on ESPN.com, to determine their place in history. The 2001 Miami Hurricanes were the only team picked by fans to defeat the '05 Trojan squad, reflecting the esteem with which the 2001 Hurricanes are held in the college football world.

Pitt team that Tony Dorsett played on was pretty good.

"Pop" Warner's Carlisle Indian School teams were legendary; first to use the forward pass as a staple part of the O, from 1907 ff.

sorry but no. the 2001 canes were not as dominate as the 1995 huskers. also you call that a massacre? 37-14 over the #4 team in the nation who backed into that game?

that 2001 team would have likely gotten killed by the 1995 huskers, just like the second best team in the nation got destroyed 62-24 that year....now that is a massacre.

also, the 2005 Trojans were not as dominate either, they were not even national champions that year.

^^ even though i don't totally agree you get the point.

I'll have to go with the '95 Huskers too. And believe me, a Gator doesn't like having to say it.

I just wanted to see how much of a discussion you wanted. Now go troll somewhere else because I could care less whether the 95' Cornhuskers or Miami 01' thugs were the best. However, go look at what those players did in the NFL.

Your silly fail thread is full of fail. If you want a discussion, then have a discussion. If you wish to pound your chest as the almighty, all-knowing god that you think you are then go test gravity by jumping out of a 13 story building. Chargers fans at their best. :paper:

Well, if we want to go ahead and look back, the '59 Ole Miss team had a point differential of +329, only allowing three TDs all season. Playing in a ridiculously good SEC, averaging over 30 points a game in the days when 30 points was a huge deal.

Them, or the '61 Bama team would probably be the best of all time.

I think Ben Tate will be the best back taken in the 2010 draft. (5/3/10)

Those were segregated teams playing in a segregated conference. No way I'm getting excited about their accomplishments. :nono:

While the SEC, SWC and ACC were staying all white, the NFL was drafting hundreds of players from black colleges during the decade of the sixties. They knew where the talent was; Willie Lanier, for example.

At the end of the sixties the NCAA allowed an additional regular season game. Bear Bryant asked John McKay to bring the Trojans to Birmingham (aka "Bombingham"). He wanted 'Bama fans to see an integrated team.

USC's backfield was all black. Southern Cal crushed the Tide in front of an all white crowd. African-American fans had to listen to the game on transistor radios outside of the stadium not far from the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. After seeing Sam Cunningham run over their D, the Alabama Crimson Tide nation was finally ready to see black players on their team.

Bear Bryant was a genius. Later he was asked by a reporter how many black players he had. He said he didn't have any black players. Then he was asked how many white players he had. He said he didn't have any white players. He said, "I only have football players."

So, if you don't mind, I'll pass on those segregated teams in segregated conferences when speaking of all-time greatest college football teams.

Something else to add was the span of wins that Nebraska had in a two to four year window .. The Florida(st) schools pretty much had their number in the bowls up until the '95 season where Nebraska put the smack down on them and without a doubt Nebraska had them players dialed in and ready to win ..

The reason I wanted to add that is because when measuring the greatest teams of all time in sports I dont believe you can do so in a single season but what that team did over a number of seasons and having won or atleast representing in a back to back championships to me is a prerequisite

The 2004 Trojans were better than the 2005 squad, they had a much better defense.

                              Im going with 1972 USC
