  • Dan Hawkins fired as CU Head Football Coach!

    Under Breaking News!!

9NEWS has confirmed Dan Hawkins has been fired as CU's head football coach.

    Per cbs4....

    Dan Hawkins Out At CU
    Vic Lombardi
    BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)

CBS4 Sports has learned a decision on the fate of CU's Dan Hawkins has been made. He is out as head football coach after five tumultuous seasons in Boulder. All that remains to be announced, when exactly Hawkins will leave.

Sources tell CBS4's Vic Lombardi that Hawkins will address the team at a meeting Tuesday morning. At that time we should learn if he is leaving immediately or if he'll be allowed to finish out the season.

Hawkins' firing has been long expected. Many supporters were actually hoping he would be dismissed at the end of last year. Hawkins' record stands at 19-39. In his five seasons, the Buffs have never finished with a winning record and reached only one bowl game.

If Hawkins leaves immediately, assistant coach Brian Cabral is expected to take over for the remainder of the season.

        Dave Logan.

He probably would have had it last time had it not gotten sticky with a local newscaster practically trying to ram Logan down CU's throat. I think the person was trying to help Logan out, but it created a kind of a stink and after all the scrutiny the CU program has come under... I just don't think they were willing to deal with it at the time.

If the tide is right and the creek don't rise, I bet it's Logan this time.

I could be mistaken, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him at CU next season.

But look who is still doing the hiring. Until they get rid of Bohn I don't think we will get the best man for the job. Only half of CU's problem was solved tonite!!!!!! FIRE BOHN

FINALLY!! I also agree that Bohn needs to go as well. He had no business giving Hawkins an extension when he did, this move could have been made 2 years ago.

                I don't know about that.

Dan Hawkins was one of the top names out at the time and Mike Bohn kept describing it as a home run hire. Dave Logan, while having tons of high school success, has never coached at the college level. That in itself is a major risk. Something CU can't really afford right now. I know anyone is a risk at this point, but with that being said...

Eric Bieniemy would be a much better option right now, IMO.

Mike Bohn is getting a lot of hate for extending Hawkins and that is justified, the guy didn't deserve it when he got it. You can't blame him for hiring Hawk at the time though, Notre Dame and several other schools were interested back then and CU just happened to bite.

Spyder, I agree that Bieniemy is a top candidate, and I might even concede he's a better candidate than Logan.

But CU wants its local support back and wants to win Colorado fans back over. Logan has the advantage in that department.

Still, I concede that Bieniemy is probably a better candidate at this stage.

I would take Bieniemy over Logan any day. Bieniemy would at least have a hope of bringing in some real talent from all over the nation. Logan would just be able to recruit locally, and that ain't gonna cut it. This team has been missing playmakers for a LOOOOOONG time. They need someone who can bring in actual talent and not someone to soothe the local natives. Not if they want to win.

Logan has appeal but he's a risk as a H.S. coach. One of the top priorities should be knowledge of the PAC12 region. Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting. We have the location to appeal to PAC12 region kids, we just need to sell them.
