  • Another Playoff Idea

found this on Twitter. simple, easy, doable. some tweaking on how to decipher rankings would be in order but it would be similar to the Sweet 16 in March Madness.

i think they intend for this to be set up so that there are 4 groups of 4 teams each. those four teams play for a spot in one of the 4 BCS Bowls. the winners of the four bowls play each other in a semi-final to determine who plays for the NC.

what do people think? (yes i filled it out to my liking. if you're going to come in and say Boise State wouldn't make it that far let alone win, then you don't understand the concept of "playoff" or the reason we need one).

so basically the winners of the Sugar and Fiesta Bowls play each other to determine who will play the winner of the winners between the Orange and Rose bowls.

I like the idea. It definitely makes sense.

As long as we keep all the other bowl games for the less fortunate teams to still have a chance at a bright spot to their season.

Yeah I'm sick of the BCS... you know the BCS is flawed when even the president thinks there should be a playoffs.

That idea is a very good one. The teams who win the semi's go to the NC game, and the teams who lose the semi's go to the Rose Bowl. The teams who lose in the quarter finals, go to the Fiesta Bowl, or something.

exactly, i think that has been one of the ideas that has been floating around for a while. even within a playoff system people want a way to preserve the bowls.

keeping the top 25 system can still work like it does in basketball, but something like this would be more easily done in a month or so rather than having a larger tournament like in basketball. 16 teams seems ideal because that gives a lot of teams chances to get there.

this also allows more one-loss teams or even multi-loss teams chances to get back in the hunt. although the only worry i have is that the BCS would still somehow try to rank people based on S.o.S. so that's always an issue. so then we could still have arguments like: "well Troy doesn't deserve to be ranked #15 because they didn't play anyone... they don't deserve to be in the playoffs..." etc.

but it's definitely better than the computer rankings and BCS nonsense.
