  • Dear NCAA.......

Please read and follow your own rules when handling the Cam Newton situation, i know your worried that without Newton , Auburn might lose and this would more then likely propel TCU into the Title game and completly ruin the 2010 college football season and make a mockery of your BCS system and thus bringing more demand for a Playoff system.....but rules are rules arent they? here is the rule in order to refresh your memories...

    SEC bylaw 14.01.3.2

If at any time before or after matriculation in a member institution a student-athlete or any member of his/her family receives or agrees to receive, directly or indirectly, any aid or assistance beyond or in addition to that permitted by the Bylaws of this Conference (except such aid or assistance as such student-athlete may receive from those persons on whom the student is naturally or legally dependent for support), such student- athlete shall be ineligible for competition in any intercollegiate sport within the Conference for the remainder of his/her college career.

According to the rules, Cam Newton should not be on the field for the SEC Championship....right?

I'm not sure about that per say, there's probably some other variables to go along with it.

      ^ Scratch that...

I just saw on ESPN that it said "Newton wasn't aware of his father's violations" therefore they won't hold him accountable, making him eligable.

LOL I know BS when I see it.

Its all just nonsense ....The only exception to the rule is .... Rules are meant to be broken or in this case by the NCAA bent ...

I also bet they don't want to spoil his heisman votes.

I somewhat agree .... I think thats one of the numerous reasons ... But I think its mostly to do with not tarnishing the entire season at seasons end and TV rating cash dollar which team and player provides them with the biggest draw .....

Going off topic here but I want SC to beat Auburn this week ...

Yeah, LD, while I am bias to the SEC 1st and Pac 10 second, Newton should have to sit for the SECCG and bowl game!!

The NCAA just ok'd any relative shopping their kid to the highest bidder-as long as the kid is unaware. Actually my hat's off to Auburn, a 48 hour turnaround in eligibility status-I want their lawyers. Cam probably didn't miss even a practice. In fact the investigation is still open-tune back in in about 5 years for results.

I can't say I'm angered or surprised just in astonishment that they suspended him for 1 day and that he had no knowledge of this incident ...

Auburn University football student-athlete Cam Newton is immediately eligible to compete, according to a decision today by the NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff. The NCAA concluded on Monday that a violation of amateurism rules occurred, therefore Auburn University declared the student-athlete ineligible yesterday for violations of NCAA amateurism rules.

When a school discovers an NCAA rules violation has occurred, it must declare the student-athlete ineligible and may request the student-athlete’s eligibility be reinstated. Reinstatement decisions are made by the NCAA national office staff and can include conditions such as withholding from competition and repayment of extra benefits. Newton was reinstated without any conditions.

According to facts of the case agreed upon by Auburn University and the NCAA enforcement staff, the student-athlete’s father and an owner of a scouting service worked together to actively market the student-athlete as a part of a pay-for-play scenario in return for Newton’s commitment to attend college and play football.

Based on the information available to the reinstatement staff at this time, we do not have sufficient evidence that Cam Newton or anyone from Auburn was aware of this activity, which led to his reinstatement.

No, they never received money or agreed to receive the money. He is clearly eligible under that bylaw because they only asked but never got anything

someone said to me today, upon complaining about mr newton, that i would love him if he was still at UF. no way. i am more relieved now than before that he is nowhere near gainesville. cam was shady at florida and he is still shady now. and i have faith that eventually he will self destruct and his bad decisions will catch up with him. thats not to say he wont go on to make millions in the NFL, but someone down the line is going to call him on his bs, and it wont be pretty.

as for the NC and the heisman i dont think either is gonna happen for cam. for one, SC is gonna stick it to auburn in the ATL. bama almost did it and spurrier has a far superior team. no one loss team is going to the NC this year. and the heisman commitee already had to vacate sam bush's heisman this year due to lack of character. i dont see them giving the heisman to a kid who is destined to screw up again, and have to vacate another trophy.

I really hope youre right about SCAR. I really want to have a NC that doesnt involve an SEC team.

As for whether his character will keep him from winning the Heisman, im going to use something (and I cant believe Im saying this) Tony Kornheiser said and thats the Heisman comittee wont penalize him by not giving it to him based on something that could or couldnt have happened. Basically he is doing so good this year that they wont vote for someone else just because of rumors of what could have happened.

If Cam Newton is awarded the Heisman trophy this year then Reggie Bush should be given his trophy back.

What's the difference between the two? The fact that Bush actually received benefits? I don't care about the outcome, the intent was the exact same.

Cam Newton wanted to break the rules, just supposedly nobody helped him break the rules. That makes him innocent?

                            Give me a break.

The kid wanted to go to Mississippi state, his dad said he would go to the highest bidder, he went to Auburn, i cant belive that his dad didnt get paid anything and still made his son go to a school that he didnt want to go too, you can bet that once the smoke clears and the seasons over, it will come out that his dad got paid, this is why the NCAA hasent closed the book on this completly, they are just waiting to make sure nothing screws up their National Championship game and they know if a NON-BCS team like TCU gets in , it will cause a big 'Playoff' movement around the country and that wouldnt sit right with the Deans of the 'Big Money' Universities that currently get filthy rich off the countless Bowl games each year......this is all just my opinion.
