Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

The only disagreement I have is vacating the Wins. Let's see JoePa busts his butt coaching & his personal life costs him wins? NE & NO cheat ON THE FIELD & THEY ONLY LOSE PICKS! How is this justified?
Because what NE and NO did is in no way comparable to what Paterno allowed to happen.
And a professional decision was made to shield the program. Therefore his professional achievements are impacted.
I voted yes. BUT!!! The NCAA should give that 60 Million to the VICTIMS, not for their own allready overgreedy azzez! Hopefully that's what they're doing, but I doubt it, know their greed like we do.

There's absolutely no similarity between Spygate/Bountygate and what Paterno did.

Absolutely agree. Might go some way to healing the mental scars. Otherwise it should be used to build centres for abused children. They can't just keep that fine for themselves, they need to make some kind of gesture.
If it was your kid that fell victim to this guy would you care about Joe Pa's legacy? He basically had the chance to be a hero to these kids and he failed in the worst way. Not only did he not fight for them he continued to enable the guy. Of all the bare minimums they could have done they chose to do nothing.
There is no proof Paterno knew what was going on other than "oh I'm angry so he must have". The only reason they docked wins was so Bowden could be number one. Bowden sits and says "I can't celebrate passing Joe" while he has a smirk on his face.
I don't care about Joe Pa but I think it's stupid to get rid of wins. The games were won. They didn't cheat.
Taking away wins doesn't really do anything.
I agree that taking away his wins does nothing. However.. had he stood up and action was taken when it was brought to his attention would those wins have amounted to what they were before they were stripped?
Who knows? It's one of those "what if?" situations.
Either way.. as a Survivor I am GLAD his legacy is now tainted. He did have a chance to save those children and he looked away.

The university's football program should be stripped completely. This "Bowl Ban" doesn't do enough. They still get to keep their football program. They still get to attract more people and conveniently enough the Library (where students are encouraged to be quiet during study time) is named after a person who kept quiet!

Oh, wow! There is some poetic harmony there, isn't there?

I didn't know about "the e-mail" ... I've been out today.
I still agree with the opinion that this and football should be separate.
I'm from the area, so I've had 28 years of Joe Paterno and Penn State. I don't want JoePa's career be erased because he made the wrong decision trying to protect his organization. I think it's pretty obvious he didn't agree with it. Maybe at that time Sandusky had promised him the behavior was over and he thought they could sweep it under the rug and not create what is happening now. Not the right decision but many in his position might make the same to avoid the firestorm they're going through. Hell, it killed the man.
I just feel really bad about the whole thing.
My family also grew up hating West Virginia... >.>

You're right, his players actually played the game the right way & didn't cheat. What he did was morally wrong, but that didn't effect their performance on the field. You want the statue gone, fine. The rest of the punishments I have no problem with, but why punish the players who went out and won the games? They didn't do anything

I thought about it some more and now I completely agree with this. The punishments seem like a slap on the wrist compared to the things these children went through with this sicko.
