This isn't about Joe Paterno now, it's about the knee jerk reaction that the NCAA made. They didn't do everything correctly, just like the NFL hasn't done well with Rice and Peterson abuse situations.
Will we see the Patriots have to give up wins because Aaron Hernandez (allegedly) murdered someone?
Once again, Paterno reported it. Could he have done more? Used his power? Yes. There are pieces none of us will ever know. The police were involved.
Everyone knee jerked. The NCAA and Penn State.
Paterno's name was taking off the Big Ten Championship, off the day care at Nike's World Headquarters, the statue is down outside the stadium, his wife had her university privileges taken away for free access, the name is a mess, it's done.
Do you take what the young men did in games away from them? No. Let the wins stay. The money will now stay in the area and state to be used to help abuse victims vs the NCAA taking the $60 million and using around as they saw fit when the money was paid for by PA.
Joe Paterno is dead. Sandusky is behind bars, and the victims have been able to receive compensation. While the compensation will never heal the wrong done to them, they have accepted it.
The others who did not follow proper protocol are facing legal battles too.
It's time to move on, and let the kids play football. The players shouldn't lose the wins and the accolades because they had nothing to do with it.
Pennsylvania has made changes because of this and it's sad that an unfortunate event caused changes and safeguards to be placed, but they are and I hope they never have to see these atrocities again.
