  • Will Nick Saban Stay or Leave Alabama

Watching Sportscenter and they are saying a contract extension has been sitting on Saban's desk, but he has yet to sign it.

Is he going to stay or leave Alabama?

Curious, now with the link to Mack Brown "resigning" from Texas.

    Thoughts?

With Saban, it's hard to tell. I caught the middle of a conversation on the Dan Patrick show this morning, and I guess (since I don't see Breaking News anywhere) they were just talking in what ifs, but it was mentioned that Texas could offer Saban a 10yr $100mil contract and having the Big 12 network could be enough to get Saban.

      Jeeeeezuuusss!!!

Knowing what he did with the Dolphins I wouldn't be surprised if he does go to Texas abruptly.

Well Saban has been known to leave before so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he bailed for Texas.

If Mack Brown resigns (which he should, and if not he should be fired), and if Nick Saban is offered the job at UT, I think he should take it. Having spent time in central Alabama and in the Texas Hill Country, I would opt for Austin. I can't say why on this forum. Let's just say I find Austin more sane and agreeable than Tuscaloosa/Birmingham.

I say that he stays. He's a God down there, and I don't see his ego letting that go

Agreed with everything you said. Tuscaloosa is a dump.

Most around here don't believe Saban will leave. Of course they also believe they are the most attractive job in the country and can afford more than anybody.

I laugh at that last part at anyone who doesn't think Texas has more money than any school in the country.

As far as not signing the contract it was rumored at $7 mil a year. They believe his agent instructed him not to sign so that Texas will offer than 10 year $100 mil and he can get Bama to match. Which most believe they will. If they match I believe he will stay.

Question is how desperate isTexas to get him? I believe they can and would go higher if Bama matches. But at some point it's ridiculous and you have to just chalk it up to a loss.

I also believe Bama alumni would chip in to help with any difference that Texas does.

To me Saban would leave for more money but I don't believe it's the main issue.

I think Sam hit the nail on the head. Austin is more appealing than Tuscaloosa. His wife loves Austin and has spent some time there this year. I believe he also has a grandchild there.

It wouldn't take Saban long to get Texas competing at the national level again. He has always wanted to do a better job recruiting out of Texas and the easiest way to do it is go coach them.

I also believe winning a title at a third school would solidify him as the greatesT coach of all time. Saban has as big of an ego as anyone an I believe he wants that title.

I just flat out think the job appeals to him and the money is just a bonus incentive. He may stay at Bama but it will cost them minimum $10 mil not $7.

Question really is will Texas go much higher?

I'm really hoping Saban leaves and think their is a strong chance he could. Howeber if Bama matches anything he won't leave. More appealing job or not.

Oh also both fan bases are unbearable with intense pressure. However I don't recall Texas fans killing other fans or tweeting death threats to players over a 1 loss season.

I guess there is nothing left for him to prove in Alabama. New challenges are always exciting... so if the money is the same or more in Texas, why WOULDN'T he go?

Because his last big challenge was the NFL, and he failed miserably. Stay where he's a god and guaranteed more $ than any coach in the SEC

Its very probable that he likes coaching college more.... so going to Texas he gets both, a new challenge and the comfort of the college game.

I agree! The man has nothing else to prove.

Talk of Saban's NFL experience makes me think off-topic to wonder if Chip Kelly will be NFL Coach-of-the-Year?

Chip, Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll are breaking the rule of college coaches in the NFL. Greg Schiano not so much. Jury still out on Doug Marrone.

When Brady Hoke got the Michigan job, he asked Al Borges and Rocky long to join him as his OC and DC.

Brady went to Ann Arbor, but Rocky applied for and got the HC job at San Diego State.

Knowing Rocky, he said, "Ann Arbor, Michigan/San Diego, California. Ann Arbor/San Diego. I'm thinkin' San Diego."

It's hard to think Austin vs. Tuscaloosa would not be a factor.

I hope he does leave the SEC, but I don't think he will. 10/100 is crazy money for a football coach though. If they offer him that and Bama doesn't match, he'd be crazy to turn it down.
