While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.

I love mock drafts and all, in fact, I can hardly wait for draft season to come around. But mock drafts are difficult enough to predict when you have the draft order, without that, what will you speculate on.
You could predict every teams individual record I suppose after this one week, then break down a bunch of prospects who are one or two games into the season, but I don't see it adding much to any draft discussions yet. There just wouldn't be any validity.
The team we predict to get the 3rd pick in the draft could end up with the 30th, and vice versa, yet both teams probably have totally different needs.

I know its early....but I think early mock drafts are interesting. and they will change over the season of course....its not like someone can only submitt one mock draft in this thread....

The only thing glaring to me is that I think it's relatively certain Matt Leinhart and Reggie Bush will likely go 1-2 in the Draft (barring major injury, off course), then again, who knows...
BTW, is the Olsen-kid QB from UCLA on anyone's radar yet?
To be honest with you Mat'hir, Kiwanuka will not go in the top three. Sorry, but I just don't see it. Even most draft guru's believe he's being hyped up a little too much. Most think 6-10 is where he'll end up.
I won't do a full mock draft, (although I had a while ago) but I will give you a draft of who I think Denver should take with their picks. (Not including compensatory that we will get for sure!)
The only reach is Greg Eslinger from Minnesota. It's rare that centers go in the first round, but he's perhaps one of the best talents coming out in the past decade or so. I really like this guy, so that's why I had us taking him in round two.
As for the third rounder, Manny Lawson, James Wyche and Eric Henderson are possible DE's available.
No matter what people say, Orien Harris could slip into the third round. I currently see five defensive tackles ahead of him at this point in the draft.
Le Kevin Smith is also worth a look here. Not to mention a few running backs or wide receivers if Bell or Watts do absolutely nothing this year.
Eric Henderson is this year's Justin Tuck. I expect him to go round two at this point, and relatively early, pass rushers with adequate size are always in high demand. As for Manny Lawson, his listed size is far from accurate if you look at him. He also doesn't play to his "timed speed" if it is indeed around 4.5-ish. He looks to me like a tweener, and likely will go the way of Jonathan Welsh. Wyche is a solid left end prospect with good size and playing strength. I don't think he fits a pass rushing mold, but could be a solid eight sack guy at his peak. This is all from early speculation of course, and does stand to change.
As far as middle round picks go, I am currently high on Jay Cutler, QB of Vandy. He looks like a real sleeper and seems to have the necessary package to play in the NFL. I think he's better than Charlie Frye, but fits that mold as clipboard to starter type draft pick. If you get a chance, check this guy out. Southerners, watch for Vandy on Jefferson Pilot...
These projections are as of right now, if the draft was held today, some players stocks will fall, others will rise, some will stay the same. Just speculating.
About Lawson, he has the size to add something to his frame. I'm not sure, but I believe he's at about 6'5 - 250 right now. I think he's a little too tall for a linebacker in a 4-3 scheme, but could be a possible fit for a team who is looking for a pass rusher in the 3-4. (Obviously used as a linebacker) However, I do feel that he CAN and WILL add bulk to his frame. I think he's drafted as a DE and used as a DE in the pro's. When most DE's in college are considered tweeners and make the move to linebacker, it's usually due to lack of ideal height. If this kid could put on some weight, I think he'd do well.
But yeah, Eric Henderson is one of my favorite on-the-rise guys as of now. If we pass up Kiwanuka or Mario Williams, (I'm having a hard time believing we'll be able to get them now, if we play well and the 'Skins do) I would love drafting Eric in the second. But as of now, I believe he's a 3rd rounder, but definitely will rise because GM's and teams covet players like that.
As for Wyche, I do agree. Projected as a LE, I think he'll go to a team with serious needs at stopping the run. I wouldn't mind him getting drafted here, as I'm still not sold on the Browncos, the age of our lineman other than him and not too sure how Pryce will play the rest of the year.
As for Cutler, yeah man. I've seen him a few times and have read up about him. I believe he's the #3 Senior Quarterback elligible for this draft. He'd be #4 if Jacobs came out, behind him, Leinart and McNeal. Personally, I wouldn't doubt the ability for Cutler or a guy like Whitehurst to sneak up into the first and make up for a QB scenario like we saw a few years ago.
But yeah, that was my mock for now. I'd be very pleased if it happened, heck if we grabbed one of those players I'd be thrilled.
Cutler is a mere blip on the radars of the thngs I've read, but we'll see when my favorite source PFW sends me my copy of their prospect book. These guys are almost always on the money with early projections as far as seniors and rankings go. I do think Cutler will rise, and be a first day guy. I am a Whitehurst fan as well, and beleive he has all the physical tools to be an NFL starter. My OB rankings at the moment are:
Leinart
Jacobs
Whitehurst
Cutler
McNeal
And then it is muddled after that. I put Whitehurst over Cutler because of his physical tools, but would be pleased to have either as a seond or thir round pick at this moment. Should Vince Young and Chris Leak enter the fray with Brad Smith and Darrell Hackney, guys like Cutler could fall a bit further. I don't care for any of the QBs outside my top four at the moment, but that could always change.
As for Lawson, I read that he is playing closer to 235-240 at the moment. I think he is more of a 3-4 end in the mold of Ware, but we'll see. Lawson will be a combine guy. If he tests well, and his measurables check out okay, he could skyrocket, if not, than he's a dime a dozen end.
I also like several guys in the corner market. Zemaitis and Williams both have the size to compete in the AFC West, as does Jason Allen. all three could also try safety, as Williams has done before. Griffin and Huff of Texas are also bigger prospects with safety experience. Even though we took three last season, you can never be without quality cover men. If we're picking late in the first, perhaps one of the Texas guys would be a good choice, and move them to safety.
