  • Official Rose Bowl Game Night Thread - (1) USC Trojans vs. (2) Texas Longhorns

Hi, Denver Broncos, fans! This is it, and tonights the night! The Ncaa College Foorball season comes into a climax at Pasadena, CAL. The BCS College Football National Championship Game athe Rose Bowl. Both the Trojans and Longhorns each have their own destiny to win at stake. Longhorns are seeking their first NCAA College Football Championship since 1970. Trojans are seeking to win the NCAA College Football Championship for the third straight season. Reggie Bush and Matt Leinhart versus Vince Young. Pacific 10 vs. Big 12 Conferences. Snoop Doggy Dogg and Henry Winkler vs. Lance Armstrong and Matthew McConaghey.

Keith Jackson, Dan Fouts will call "The Grandaddy Of Them All" in the 104th Edition of the Tournament Of Rose Bowl. I could be wrong, I really throught last year's game at the Orange Bowl in Miami (Dolphins Stadium At Miami Gardens) was gonna be a close game score-wise, but I wouldn't be surprise USC blows out in scoring over Texas, like they did last year to Oklahoma, but there is no guarantee on that.

I'm setting aside five hours on my DVDR and TIVo in case the Rose Bowl game might last five hours like the Orange Bowl last night. My hats off and praise to Joe Pa. Better to overtape it than undertape. ABC will give us viewers a great BCS game and show! Enjoy the game and your evening!

Although USC always says "3rd straight", since the NCAA has agreed to crown the BCS winner it's National Champion, this would technically be their 2nd straight, if they win.

Gee - the Associated Press National Champion has been around for about 100 years, while the BCS has been around for about 5. USC will hopefully be the first team in 100 years or so to win three straight National Championships, no matter how anyone tries to spin it. Granted the first of those three was the dreaded "split" national title (which has happened probably 15 times or so) but it was still a national title.

What USC is trying to do tonight is unprecedented and for the life of me I can't figure out why some people are constantly trying to downgrade it.

you CAN'T figure out why people are trying to downgrade it? how bout cuz their first national championship shouldn't have counted? they didn't even play a game for the title so how can they be the champions? LSU shared that title with them, but everyone is acting like USC beat them for it. i bet the majority of people don't even know that LSU was considered national champions that year too, considering how little respect they get for it.

Oh, I am not downplaying it.

I am just saying that officially, the NCAA only recognizes LSU as 2002/03 national champion, as per its agreement with the BCS.

USC SHOULD have been listed as a co-champion.

My point is that when you agree to be a part of a system, you are beholden to that system, even when it shafts you.

It's too bad Penn State couldn't beat Michigan or Fresno State didn't beat USC. We need more contorversy to get rid of the BCS.

As you can tell, I am a proponent of a playoff.

I agree. Im afraid it's going to take someone like Fox putting up a ton of money that someone eventually has to accept.
The excuses against a playoff are ridiculous.

Can you imagine a playoff this year?
                        First round:
                        USC vs Miami
                        Texas vs Georgia
                        Penn State vs Notre Dame
                        Ohio State vs Oregon

Winners move on, losers go home.

Yeah that wouldnt be very entertaining...would it?

Quick: I haven't had my ass whipped in a while. Probably been since like...1911?
Sugar Ray: Yeah, thats when you were born and the doctor slapped you on the ass.
Quick: Yes, thats the last ass whipping I recall. And I'm looking for him.

And the ratings would be HUGE! Plus, since lets be honest, its about money, the money generated would be tremendous.

And the big 4 plus some other bigger ones (Cotton, Citrus, Holiday) can rotate as playoff and championship game sites.

I like your matchups, but I'd go 16 teams, just like all the other divisions. Because West Virgina showed that that can play. Alabama and LSU would probably get bids too.

And they could still keep all of the crappy bowls that no one wants. If Southern Miss still wants to play Arkansas State in the New Orleans Bowl...go ahead. Just take the top 4....8....16...I dont care.... teams and let them play it out in the major bowls.

The rating would be huge. Think of March Madness...people call in sick on those days so they can watch...and its ALWAYS entertaining....this would be bigger.

First, you say that their championship "shouldn't have counted" then you say LSU "shared that title with them." Even you are admitting that it was a split national title, like so many others before them. I am not saying that LSU didn't win a national title that year, I am saying that both teams did. I know logically we have trouble accepting that there were 2 champions, but in the long history of division 1 college football logic goes out the window every few years.

It would appear that the NCAA recognizes all polls' national champions:

Again, I understand that a playoff is needed, but until then this is the system we have and under that system, USC is going for their third straight national title, even if one of them was a split title.
