  • Leinart was a joke tonight...

Leinhart proved to me tonight that he is NOT a better quarterback than Young. Why? He plays like an old man unable to move about in the pocket. How many times did he simply not run away from pressure but rather just stand there as an easy target tonight? On the last play of the game the idiot ran around the pocket and everywhere looking for an open receiver, wasting all time remaining on the clock and any shot at a possible game tying FG. Vince Young? He ran DOWNFIELD for First Downs, finding open receivers if he could, and if he couldn't he made the play with his legs. He is a straight drop back passer who is too dependent on his offensive line. I think a scrambling; accurate QB like Vince Young is the way of the future. Young proved one thing; he can WIN the game with his RUNNING ability.

... seriously though WTF was he thinking on that last play in the game. They needed a short quick pass and the idiot takes ALL DAY in the pocket and then throws the ball away after running around like a guy who has no idea what's going on. With 8 seconds left he should've gotten rid of the ball like a quarterback should and got atleast another play in. Pathetic job on that final play.

Ypu may think that running QB's are the wave of the future but it's interesting to note that there isn't any running QB's in the NFL playoffs this year.

It's alot easier to run on COLLEGE teams than it is against NFL teams.

Maybe not be a RUNNING QB like Vick, but atleast have the ablity to scramble out of the pocket. Leinart looked like a baby leaving the womb whenever he got out of the pocket. Just running around anywhere, not looking for the downfield pass.

I think Jake Plummer is a good example of the kind of QB V. Young can be, and better. He has the abliity to run out of the pocket and more importantly THROW out of the pocket, like Plummer does. He appears to have a better arm, accuracy than Vince Young. I think with his abliity to run out of the pocket and his size of his body, and his arm he'd make a terrific quaterback (Young, that is).

Leinart reminded me alot of a typical pocket QB with no ablitiy to get ouf of the pocket and make anything happen. All of the greats: Elway, Young, Cunningham, etc. have been able to scramble out of the pocket and make the throw on the run. I don't recall Leinart being able to do that at all today...

Agreed with you. I think Plummer is the kind of QB you need on your team. Able to run of the pocket and create plays if they're not there. Leinart proved tonight he's not this type of QB and Vince Young is. If I was picking in the draft I'm going Young > Leinart everyday.

You shouldn't write off Leinert so quickly though.

Especially since the NFL PLAYOFFS are filled with pocket passers.

Plummer probably has the most mobility of any starting QB's in the playoffs.

But he's far from being considered the best QB.

That goes to Brady, Manning and Palmer.

          ALL pocket passers.

I would Young over Leinert also.

I'm just saying that you shouldn't write off pocket QB's.

Their dominance winning playoff games and Superbowls is undeniable.

Good points, good points. I don't know, maybe it's just because I'm frustrated with tonight's game. He managed the game SO POORLY on that final drive it's insane. How could he just have ran around the pocket and eat up all the time on the clock THEN throw the ball away out of bounds when he had 8 seconds left? Man, he should've thrown the ball away immedatley if there was nobody open and then tried to get another play for the FG or atleast tried running out of bounds or something. So many times I was thinking "This guy needs to run OUT of the pocket and create a play for a first down!". Instead he would just run out, not find anybody open, and take a sack. Young on the other hand, if he didnt find anybody open he would run TOWARDS the endzone and try to pick up a first down. Just frusturating watching USC lose this game.....

No one was open did you expect him to just burst out into a mad dash toward the endzone? He is a pocket passer not a scrambling QB like Young. Comparing Lienart to Young's speed is just stupid

I expcted him to read the defense and throw the ball away as to leave enough time on the clock for another play. NOT run around the field like a jackass and let all the time expire THEN throw the ball out of bounds.

                      Sure

Actually no, I'm saying comparing Matt and Vince's speed is a no brainer, Vince is way faster than Matt.

I see a load of rubbish in these posts. Just look at Leinarts numbers:
29-40 attempts, 1 TD 1 INT, 365 yards. Ok he was sacked 3 times but really thats not a huge thing. Your making it sound like he was dropped 10 times.
Young on 30 pass attempts only got 267 yards, no TD's no Ints. I'd like to see a good QB throw from at least 1 td in that many attempts especially in a championship game. Instead he has to run for 200 yards and 3 TD's, thats not a QB to me, thats a bad running game requiring you to turn a QB into a running back who can throw. Plus Matt had a 14 yard run, his total yardage reduced because of the sacks.
"On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit. And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit, and you think, 'Okay, this is the limit'. And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high."

Look guys Leinart is the more polished qb at this stage of his career. Young has a great upside but Leinart imo is way ahead of Vince because he(Leinart) understands ultimately qbs make game changing plays with their arms not their legs. Peyton Manning is not a very mobile qb but he's one of best because presences in the pocket. Vick might ultimately be a great qb but he still has to learn that its his arm that will win Championship not his legs. Vince will have to learn the same thing.
