    He's an excellent coach.

Offensive players from all over the west will want to go play for him because of his offense.

If he can use CU's major conference status to recruit and put together at least an above avergae defense, then they should be better.

Everybody's gotta elevate from the norm...

The greatest list of music I don't own on CD
You should check these guys out

He's one of those coaches that you think why he isn't in a "BCS school"..Great Coach, who can make any team winners, and gets the respect of his players.... I think their are a couple of those guys, Dorrell of UCLA was one of them and I think Pat Hill of Fresno State is on top of that list too...

        Welcome to the boards mojo

To answer your question: I think we'll need to wait about 5 years before we know for sure... But all the early signs point to success. He was winner the whole time he was at BSU, and his scoring offense was always among the best in the nation. As Jared said, if he can put together any sort of defense, the offense will practically run itself.

He's also free of any scandal and has been doing things about as well as you could hope in the community. One of his first moves was to call former coach Bill McCartney and just get some general advice. Not a bad start considering Mac brought the school its only national championship and was a master recruiter.

First of all, this is a solid hire like i said. You are not going to have to wait five years to see good results from hawkins. Look at my post in the bomar thread.

                yep

Id say CU landed one hell of a coach. As long as he has the respect of the players and administration...he should be alright.

I'm interested to see what the Buffs offence will look like this season for sure. Give this guy a few years recruiting and CU should be good to role.

I read your other post about Hawk... I hope you're right that he will be able to hit the ground running, and I hope you are wrong about NU winning the North this year.

When I said that we would need to wait about 5 years, I'm hoping that we have success before year 5, but to be fair to a coach you really need to judge them based on all their own recruiting... So it will be about 4-5 years before we see 100% Hawkins recruits. Plus, it's gonna take some time before Bohn and Co. get some $$ to work with in the athletic department-- But CU is definitely better off now than they were in the Barnett era.

Well, anything can happen, but I really can't see CU winning the North. There are just too many question marks, not that they can't be answered, but there are way too many holes. THe major ones being Klopfenstein, Judge, Klatt, and Vicker's absence. I'm not sure about your D, but I'm pretty sure that Iwuh and Manopuna (yes, I know that's probably incorrect) are leaving. Like I said though, anything can and will happen.

Judge and Klatt are nothing IMO..but Vicker's and Klopfenstein are huge losses, but then again neither one of those guys are really Hawkin's type of guys..especially in his new offense installed...

But for y'all Buff fans out there, on Easter weekend on Saturday, Spring Game (Free of Charge) is @1pm, I'm planning on going and it last about 2 hours so you'll have time to go home and do what I'm doing(go to Mass)...so no excuse NOT to go!

I like the hire. I was never a big Barnett fan. I know he one of Coach Mac's asst.s but I could take him or leave him. I think the hire shows that the school does care more about the football team than they've shown over the last few years. What I want to know is whose gonna play QB. Also, will Mackey be ready to go, and who else will play WR(A weakness for the Buffs for a few years now).

I'm excited to see Mackey back in action, I hope he can emerge as the Buff's #1 receiver, and provide a deep threat. I think Patrick Williams and Dusty Sprague will split time across from Mackey.

Bernard Jackson and Brian White have been splitting time at QB in spring ball so far... James Cox hurt himself early on and sat out most of the week-- I don't think that is doing him any favors especially given his performance in his limited playing time last season. I would predict White is the guy when Montana State rolls around this fall.

Thanks for the 411. I go to the Cu site a little, but I ain't paying for premium access. I was hoping Bjax would get a little run. A QB who is not a statue would be nice. Who was it that played mop up duty in the Clemson game. I forget. He showed some nice arm stregnth if I remember correctly. A little inaccurate, but seemed like he had a cannon.

i actually wrote "ain't" I've been in the south for too long.

The guy who played mop-up duty was Brian White... That's why I think he's the front runner at this point, unless Jackson proves he can throw the deep ball I think Hawk will go with the better arm.

James Cox is losing ground based on his injury, when they asked Hawk what he thought of it, he said "I don't know, but he better dip that thing in holy water to get it goin."

White said he worked in the off season to improve his mobility, and at-worst he would be a little step up from Klatt in the mobility dept. Jackson would provide some serious mobility, but I just don't know if he can get it done in the vertically oriented Hawk offense.

Oh, and btw, the Buffs site is a lousy information source. Usually www.dailycamera.com is the best place for the latest Buff news... You have to join, but it's free.
