  • Dan Hawkins Question

Seeing as how quite a few people on this board aren't necessarily CU fans I was wondering what the outsider's opinions were on Dan Hawkins as a coach. It seems that all is going well on the recruiting front this year, but can he translate it to the field and bring the Buffs back to respectability?

    What do you think?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! No. On a serious note, it is very possible, but CU fans will have to wait a few years to be up to the level again.
    Go Huskers.

My opinion of Dan Hawkins is one that is true for my whole opinion of Boise State Football. Over-rated and the benefactor of a weak conference.

Maybe he is a good coach, but I just don't know.

I've posted my opinions in a couple other Hawkins threads. So far so good, the guy is doing everything the right way, which is all CU can ask for at this point. He's retooling the strength and conditioning program, recruiting in places we never recruited before and should be able to turn the offense around here.

What remains to be seen is what kind of recruits he can bring in, and what kind of defense he will be able to put on the field. Obviously we can't totally judge him for a few years until his recruits come through the program-- But things seem to be looking in the right direction.

I tend to agree with that assesment.

I am pleased with how things are going on the recruiting front. He seems to know how to reach out to these kids and his staff has been working their butts off. If they keep it up I think that they should be able to land a few top notch players. The 3 early commitments are a good sign.

If he can land Ryan Miller that would be huge. Hawk needs to keep this kid home.

Getting Miller would be good because of the obvious skills he brings, but more than that it would send a message to other recruits and other schools that CU can recruit with the elite programs.

Hawk handles the in-state recruiting himself and has made it a priority to keep the Colorado players at home--Something Barnett and Co. were slipping at in recent years... So I hope Miller and some other top homegrown talent decide to stay @ CU.

Definitely. It seems that Colorado's talent level has gradually increased over the past decade or so. Ryan Miller, Drew Davis and a couple of other instate prospects would be huge...... what do you know about Anthony Perkins?

Probably the same thing you know, as much as you can get at Scout.com without a membership...

I know he committed and played QB as a junior....

                Biography:
As a junior, he had 1,200 yards passing and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed for 500 yards and 17 touchdowns. On defense, in two games at free safety, he had two interceptions. Perkins was named first team all-conference and area. He was also named the Front Range Offensive Player of the Year and honorable mention all-state.
Perkins: "I move well on the field. I am quick and fast. I am a smart player that works hard. For the rest of my high school career I just really want to work on my strength and speed."

Got ya, I think that they're planning to use him at safety but I don't know too much about how well he plays.....

Speaking of safties, did you hear that they're going after Jordan Bernstein, Rod's nephew, from Iowa. He's one of the better prospects this year. He's drawing interest from about every Big 12 North School, Purdue, A&M, and UCLA. He is supposed to be the real deal.

Who knows though, there is a long way yet to go........
