I don't know if anyone's seen this yet..

Hurricanes tackle shot, killed leaving practice field

University of Miami defensive tackle Bryan Pata was shot and killed Tuesday night, shortly after leaving the practice field, according to a university official with knowledge of the situation.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement still was being prepared by the university, had no knowledge of the circumstances surrounding Pata's death.

Miami-Dade police refused to release specific information about what happened.

Pata, a 6-foot-4, 272-pound senior, is from Miami

      Sad...

It is awful. I mean that guy was going to play in the NFL...and how he's gone.

My prayers are with his family.

Horrible story, and seeing the news footage of his mother crying and fainting while she was wearing that Canes Jersy with #1 Mom on the back...man, its just heart breaking.

                Uhm, okay.

And before you attack me and try to point out that I assumed it was linked to the rest of the Hurricanes' problems, try and rethink yourself.

I never pointed out that it was at all in connections with the ongoing nonsense down there, but it still adds to the long list of troubled situations and questionable antics down there in Miami. Even though it's non football related, it's still heartbreaking to have another thing happen to that school.

I heard he was a good kid, but when a story like this develops -- your first thoughts are obviously going to read into Miami and the things that have gone on down there recently. Especially if you don't know much about the program other than what comes on ESPN at night.

                    Trubblesome...very troublesom..

Seriously something has to be done... I suggest that if Florida ever wants more people to attend their colleges they should try to clean it up more so. I had friends wanting to go to University Of Miami but their parents talked them out of it. Honestly i would talk anyone out of going down there. Espically if you play football you got a good chance of getting killed by someone who books on these games. The new Govonor should declare an Crime Emergency or we might see in a few years University of Florida and Miami being downgraded due to poor attendance.

                        I'm sorry you misunderstood me.

The part about being shot while leaving practice was the original story posted on ESPN. I just quoted what they said.

Next time I'll try to be more specific.

Aside from being a swipe at UF ( a great academic institution) and Florida as a state ( a world leader in Marine Biology research, and biotech research), your assumption that the state of Florida could EVER tell UM waht to do is laughable, since UM IS A PRIVATE SCHOOL!.

You post has no relevance to the issue.

NFL Network last night was reporting that an alleged eye witness saw an arguement prior to the shooting. I have no idea if this report is credible especially since it was printed in the Palm Bay newspaper. That city is waaaay north of Miami so I don't get it. I was looking for some update today but can't find one.

This truly is a tragic story.
