  • Huskers running back to pass up senior season

    makes me sad

    i really liked him

    heres an article

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Brandon Jackson will pass up his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

Jackson played sparingly in the Jan. 1 Cotton Bowl against Auburn after breaking his right hand in the Big 12 championship game against Oklahoma. He had 989 yards rushing and eight touchdowns in 2006, earning All-Big 12 honors.

"My decision was not based on the last game of the season," Jackson said Monday in a statement. "It was based on the opportunity in front of me to play at the next level in the NFL."

Jackson rushed for at least 100 yards in four games last season. He also caught 33 passes for 313 yards.

"I want to thank him for his contributions to the Nebraska football program and we wish him nothing but the best in the future," coach Bill Callahan said. "We were hopeful that he would choose to stay at Nebraska to complete his eligibility and, most importantly, continue to pursue his college degree."

I still miss the blue background.

I hadn't heard that he was even thinking about leaving. That is to bad. Nebraska has to many good RB's though. It makes since that he would leave now, since it isn't a guarantee to get carries in Nebraska with the competition so tight. I wonder what kind of draft grade he will get.

hmm..why would he leave? I don't think he's that good, doesn't have the speed or size to be a top RB pick... He'll probably go in the 6th/7th round..

Oh well, it does open up the door for their stud, Marlon Lucky... He's the one that has the moves and speed to be a pro back...

Oh yeah...and "We were hopeful that he would choose to stay at Nebraska to complete his eligibility and, most importantly, continue to pursue his college degree."

Coming from the coach, lol, what does that tell you? You better have a backup plan! Ouch! Bad Decision..
fight u dwn the fied..cu must win.. fight fight fr Victoy..cu knows no defet! so roll up the mighty score, Never Give in!!...shouler to shulder we will FIGHT..FIGHT ... FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!

That was a terrible decision IMO. I watched him play some, and he didn't look like he had very much pro talent at all.

You guys are all so wrong on that talent thing. He obviously has pro talent, and even more obvious, has pro scouts talking to him and encouraging him to leave for the NFL. He wont at all be a first day pick right now due to the fact that there are so many other top RB's comming out this year. He has shown talent though and that might be his reason for leaving. He could have caught peoples eyes in the pros and doesn't want to negate that by staying another year and chancing a bad season.

            We still have -

            1) Kenny Wilson

            2) Marlon Lucky

            3) Cody Glenn

Which in my opinion is the main reason he entered the draft!!! He put up some impressive enough numbers this year and it would only be that much more spread out next year between the 3!!! Of course there is that and apparently we are "trying" to run the West Coast...though we have the Backs for the option!!!

I think he has a better chance now than he would after next year to go!!! I wish him the best of luck and hope he doesn't hate himself for not finishing his education!!!

we're still good at the RB position..

good luck to Jackson in the future though.

Listening to the pundits, they say that this year was prolly his best chance...

...as there aren't that many rb's in the draft...

...and the fact his coach is callahan....

Evidently, he was "promised" (so says his HS coach) that he'd have the bulk of the carries in the bowl game, but didn't, and he decided he didn't want to leave it up to callahan next year, or he'd prolly end up sitting on the bench.

Lucky is a bust, pure and simple. Just how many years DOES it take to figure out that you run toward the daylight, no dance to my lou, and keep your qb from getting killed ?

Plus, aren't they adding another rb prospect?

tireless minority keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of
                  men."

I think he realizes that he wouldn't be the best back on the team next year. Not to mention, he developed a severe case of fumbilitis near the end of the season.

Lucky is one of the most frustrating players to watch. He has ALL the talent in the world, but defenders have one secret weapon; a damn brain. He's actually pretty good at the passes out in the flats, because he just has to run for the most part, straight. He doesn't have to make any reads.

Agree to a point with the Lucky thing!!! Jackson was bar non the best we had this past season though...till the fumbilitis set in!!!

Honestly...with Callahan at the helm...Jackson was smart to make this move!!! Also add to it the fact the a RB life span in the NFL is usually shorter anyway...he has a chance to do good things!!!

I wish him luck...and I pray that Callahan pulls his head out and we start playing in the second half instead of going preventative!!!

Exactly...which only would have added to his issues with keeping a hold of the ball!!!

He shouldn't be too upset about the bowl game concidering that fact...yet he seems to be...
