This is a list of the top rivalries that this guy would like to see come back. I am just posting his #2 which is between OU and NU since there seems to be a lot of fans from each on here. I would have to agree with him on the fact that Nebraska needs to be in the big 12 championship every year. I could care less if OU makes it though .

    Oklahoma vs. Nebraska
This matchup was featured yesterday in our declining rivalries, and we would love to be able to remove it from that list. The Big 12 has muted this storied this Big 8 rivalry. Even the styles of play between the two teams – Nebraska's option and Oklahoma's wishbone – have all but left major college football. The rivalry reached its apex in 1987 when No. 1 Nebraska met No. 2 Oklahoma in Lincoln. Barry Switzer's Sooners knocked off the Cornhuskers for a chance at the national championship. The closest we've come since was the Big 12 title game last season, when Oklahoma beat Nebraska 21-7. Even though the two teams are in opposite divisions, we'd love to make this a permanent fixture in the Big 12.

if you want nebraska to lose the big 12 championship every year, then they should be in it every year.

If thats what you think. I would like to know who exactly is so good in the South that you think Nebraska won't win it for 3-4 years... Not like there is even a decent team there other than the great Cornhuskers.

Half the teams in the south are better than nebraska. Baylor probably has a shot a beating them.

The North doesnt even look like a formidable opponent any more. Nebraska should be cleaning house up there every year, no questions asked. I would say the only team with an outside shot of winning the north other than the Shuckers is Mizzou. If Chase Daniels can improve on his break-out year (and yes it was pretty damn good) then I think maybe they can edge them out.

Other than that, there is no excuse for Nebraska to not be in it. The South is improving, top to bottom, whereas the North has a couple of improving teams and a bunch of gutter dwellers.

Also, I'd love to play Nebraska every year if we could. I'd love to dump our game against Kansas or Iowa State in favor of that. It is part of the reason to blame for the decline. The other half is the slumps that each team has incurred during that span (OU in late 90's, Nebraska from '01-'04). I think with little bit of work, it can really mean something again.

Be sure to let us all know when the north is again competitive.....

                      South division dominant
North teams are 3-13 against southern counterparts this season

                      Tuesday, October 31, 2006

The disparity between the two Big 12 Conference football divisions is so great again that the issue of what to do about it became a topic of conversation on the weekly Big 12 coaches conference call Monday.
Over the weekend, Oklahoma defeated Missouri, and Oklahoma State upset Nebraska, both South victories coming by double digits. The North has a 3-13 record vs. the South. The lone North victories this season: Kansas State 31, Oklahoma State 27; Missouri 38, Texas Tech 21; Colorado 30, Texas Tech 6.
A telling moment during the call came when Bill Callahan was asked about the defense of his team’s next opponent, Missouri.

“They’re the best defense I’ve seen so far, especially in our division,” Callahan said.

Asked later about the Texas defense the Cornhuskers faced a couple of weeks ago, Callahan reiterated he meant “in our division.”

It’s as if the split has created a feeling of two different leagues, the strong one and the weak one.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops went out of his way to say he respected the talent level and coaching ability in the North and said he didn’t look at it as two different “segments.” In fact, Stoops said he wouldn’t mind seeing it become one big conference without any divisions, such as the Big 10 and Pac-10.

“It would probably be great if you threw out the Big 12 championship game,” Stoops said. “Play an extra game, get it away from the divisions, mix up who the teams are who you’re not playing each year.”

If that happened, Stoops would like to see a system whereby the old Nebraska-Oklahoma rivalry could return on an annual basis.

“That would probably be great,” he said. “I think those are the kinds of things that would be possible. That’s another rivalry we have that we’d be able to have each and every year. It’s been diluted now that we only play every couple of years. I don’t know how fair it would be, but hey, that’s the way it is. We have more rivalries than anybody else. The idea of making it one big conference to me seems pretty attractive.”

Baylor is 3-0 against the North and 0-2 versus the South, but Bears coach Guy Morriss isn’t seeking any gerrymandering.

“I kind of like the conference-championships set-up myself,” said Morriss, who must face Texas and Oklahoma on an annual basis. “To me, it’s everything is settled on the field.”
haha...even your coach can see the difference......
"It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate,
tireless minority keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of
                      men."

Lets see: Oklahoma, Texas (they won a National Championship a couple years ago, so they are decent), A&M is pretty good, Tech is even better than almost every North team, and even Oklahoma State.

                        This is a terrible argument.

I haven't been to this thread in a while but that post was supposed to say the North. Someone said they would be lucky to win the North anytime in the next 3-4 years. There are no other good teams in the North to really compete with Nebraska. Missouri is alright, but I still don't see them winning it. I surely don't see them winning it for the next 3-4 years straight.

As a Virginia tech fan i miss the WVU/VT Black Diamond rivalry.but since moving to the ACC they are starting to build a new one with Florida State.Over the years Bowden has owned Beamer though, hopefully that will change soon.

IMO: I think Kansas State will surprise everyone this year and has a great chance in winning the North. No problem with their offense, it all depends on how their defense plays this year.
