  • 2007 Rocky Mtn. Showdown CSU vs. CU

    Sept. 1st at Invesco Field.

CSU- return of Kyle Bell and bringing back an Offensive coordinator that left in '96. Experienced QB, Loaded defensive line, good secondary.

If the o-line can stay healthy Bell comes back and runs for 150.

    CSU wins this one 28-10.

I think you are severely underestimating CU's rush defense. Despite all of their problems last season, CU only allowed two 100 yard rushers: Allen Patrick of OU and Brandon Jackson of NU. Their defense lost two impact starters in Abraham Wright and Thaddeus Washington. It remains to be seen if Alonzo Barrett will be a suitable replacement for Wright but Michael Sipili seems to be ready to fill Washington's shoes. Plus, CU's offense will be better this year with a competent QB and B-Jax used in a role more fitting to his abilities.

Or did you forget that CSU rushed for 15 yards on 34 attempts (0.4 YPC) in last years game?

    CU 35-17

        4 Reasons:

        1. CU's offensive progression as displayed in Spring ball and 7 on 7's.

        2. Dan Hawkins' history of having an explosive offense

        3. The players' second year in the system, much progress is typically made between year one and year two when learning a new offense

        4. QB in Cody Hawkins who knows the ins and outs of the system better than most of the Seniors, granted he is merely a Freshman and will have some growing pains, I believe he will do more good than bad as CU's starter.

Other things that could help include an influx of freshman wide receivers and Joe Sander's conversion from LB to TE, his original position.

          Orange_Crush21 Knows his stuff...

Last year, I know it was just spring, but you could tell their offense was going to struggle... When you can't score ANYTHING in a spring game, then what will change in the fall? This year was different, they moved the ball and were able to score a ton ... CU has some nice weapons now, it'll be interesting to see if they can use it...

CSU does get Kyle Bell back and doesn't take much for him to get up for this game...

Its hard to tell, but I think its going to be a close game (once again)... CU takes it 20-17... Next year, once Hawk gets his stud recruits in and young O-line more developed, CU will run away with these games...

Whos all going to the game? I will be there, up in the 5th level, but I'll be there...LOL...
fight u dwn the fied..cu must win.. fight fight fr Victoy..cu knows no defet! so roll up the mighty score, Never Give in!!...shouler to shulder we will FIGHT..FIGHT ... FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!

I'm going to the game as well. But I'm taking CSU in a close game 17-14. CU's recruiting class of 2007 and 2008 are great but it won't help them this year.

It's #4 that I think will decide the game. If you can have solid play from whoever you have at QB it could turn out to be a very close game again. If The rams can put pressure on your QB consistently I see the young Hawkins making some mistakes (if he is the starter.)

i'm so confident in the incompetence of csu (sonny is losing his coaching ability and he's the best csu will ever have) that i guarantee cu will win by at least 42. i'm willing to pay any csu fan $100 if this does not happen

                    On a side note:

I also wish the game would be at night and in front of a national audience like ESPN.

I'm really looking forward to this years game once again and I really hope both teams return to form. The state of Colorado needs it.

This game is so much bigger when one of the schools is in the top 25 or even somewhere around there.

I'm looking forward to the day both teams are top 25 teams again?

But I hope the Rams get there first but it might take another decade and a new coaching staff

so noone wants to call me on my guarantee? well, i can't really blame you. if noone wants to take this offer by next week, i will raise it up to $1000. the week after will be $1,000,000. i can't go any higher than that, i'm afraid.
p.s. conrad, csu will never be a top 25 team again. so plz don't get your hopes up. the coach that takes over after lubick will be a downgrade in both reputation and coaching ability

You shouldn't really be waiting for a new coaching staff, I think thats the last thing you need... What you need is players and recruiters... Sonny is a heck of a coach, and its not bold to say, its probably going to be the best CSU can ever get ... When was the last time CSU got a 5-star recruit, let alone a 4-star recruit?

This is one of the reasons why CU should NEVER lose this game, its not smack, its reality... with CU getting better recruits, its saying A LOT about how Sonny and his staff pulls wins against CU...

4 reasons why CSU will win:

                            1. The return of Kyle Bell. Even though the O-Line is gonna be young and they aren't gonna have a lot of experience, expect a big game from Kyle Bell as it will be his 1st game since December 2005 and he will be ready to get back onto the field once again.

                            2. The passing game is going to be better than last years, and that is pretty impressive knowing Hanie only had a couple incomplete passes. But, Caleb Hanie has experience now as a starter, and he has 5 senior targets that will be ready to tear up CU's defense. CSU has one of the top TE's in the nation in Kory Sperry, and he has some pretty good WR's in Johnny Walker, Luke Roberts, George Hill and Damon Morton. All of them seniors with a lot of experience.

                            3. Field Postion is gonna be huge in this game, and with a punter like Jimmy Kaylor, CSU has the advantage over CU.

                            4. CSU's experienced Defense. CSU's defense is gonna be solid this year, especially on the D-Line. They have 3 senior DE's, 2 of them All-Conference caliber with Jesse Nading and Blake Smith (he is moving from DT to DE this year). Also, the interior DL will be solid with Juniors Matt Rupp and Erick Sandie. The secondary is gonna be solid too with Kubiak and Pagnotta at saftey, and Darryl Williams leading the way at CB.

The Rams win this one 21-14.
