  • Should the pats have asterisk? (*moved)

if the pats go undefeated should there be an asterisk? i believe so

Hall of Fame coach Don Shula tried to clarify his comments about the effect the "Spygate" scandal would have on any records that may be achieved by this season's New England Patriots on Thursday morning.

No, as much as I hate them. They won all their SB's fair and square. There has been no evidence so far that proves that they were cheating in those years. If they win this year's SB, then yes. You put an asterisk on this year's SB win. All of their wins were close games anyways, if they were cheating. They would have known all the plays the other teams had and won by blow-outs. Like this season.

No, and not this year either. The spygate camera was confiscated by NFL security before the contents of said camera were able to be effectively delivered to Hoodie man for analysis. So, there was no cheating, only an attempt to cheat.

Be careful what you ask for. There are many things that can be found that flaw accomplishments by teams especially SB wins. I would hate for asterisks to start being thrown around about flaws found about teams because according to a lot of sports writers the SBs that the BRONCOS won were tainted with salary cap issues that the BRONCOS were found guilty of and payed the price. So I say leave the asterisks alone!

If only there was some way we could prove you can't video tape Broncos signals. Then we could make a huge case for them cheating, because they never beat us.

My thoughts exactly. This thread belongs in smack talk.

Circumstantial at best. No proof there.

              No.

Considering the spy gate scandal was put to a halt early in the season, and considering what they've done since, I would say it's water under the bridge, and New England is certainly for real.

The only reason why Shula brought it up is because he honestly fears that they will beat his precious Dolphins record going 16-0.

I find it ironic that he's bringing this up now, after NE beat Indy, instead of bringing it up at the time the scandal happened.

Dolphins went 17-0 though. NE will lose first game of playoffs to finish 16-1.

                  No they won't.

And the record doesn't count the playoff results because it's a regular season record.

Well it doesn't matter now. Shula just changed his words moments ago.

So, the Patriots JUST decided to start "attempting" to cheat this season? Hahaha, good laugh. I'm sure when Bellichek's job was on the line before the Super Bowls he NEVER cheated, no no all that success was genuine. Let's be realistic, Bellichek and the Patriots have been doing it for a while now, just because we can't prove it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Im really 50/50 about this topic.

I didnt think the punishment fit the crime to start with.

I think the NFL took it easy on the Pats is for that reason.

They didnt want to see the asterisk factor like they are talking about in baseball and had a good idea that pats could win the SB this year.

Do I think the Patriots should get a asterisk at the end of the season.NO

Will anyone ever convice me they didnt cheat to win the 3 SB.NO

If you can't prove it then how can you do something about it?

Also, there is no way they are cheating now. This entire season, they have been and will be under the microscope. They are straight dominating everyone they see and, again, they have no way of cheating now.

There are no other ways to cheat than the way they got caught? Ha, reading signals with a camera man is not the only way of cheating in the NFL. I don't have to prove anything to know that in my mind and many other's they are cheaters and considering the situation at Green Bay last year I don't think this is their first time using these tactics.

I dont think they should have been fined or even lost a draft pick , just make them forfeit the game that they were trying to cheat in, then if they did end up winning the rest of their games and the super bowl then the coaching staff could say for the rest of their life what could have been
