  • Kyle Shanahan now OC of Houston Texans

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3192517
HOUSTON -- Kyle Shanahan was promoted to offensive coordinator of the Houston Texans on Friday, making him the youngest coach at that position in the NFL.

The 28-year-old son of Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan replaces Mike Sherman, who spent two seasons with the Texans before being named the head coach at Texas A&M in late November.

    Shanahan
Shanahan is almost three years younger than Josh McDaniels, the 31-year-old New England offensive coordinator who was previously the NFL's youngest to hold the job. Shanahan spent the last two seasons with the Texans, first coaching receivers coach and then quarterbacks.
The Texans also hired Alex Gibbs, who takes over the assistant head coach slot Sherman also held. Gibbs, 66, most recently worked with Atlanta, first as an assistant and then a consultant for the previous three seasons.

The 23-year NFL coaching veteran was Denver's offensive line coach for 13 seasons, including when Texans coach Gary Kubiak was offensive coordinator there.

Shanahan will continue to coach quarterbacks as offensive coordinator.

Well this sure is something. I guess those Shanahans really know how to run offenses.

This is great for Kyle. Also I'm sure dad feels pretty proud of the kid.

It's interesting to see that Denver's talent and association is helping the Texans succeed.

Kubiak is head coach, and now Shanahan is the OC....

Wouldn't it be interesting to see a father-son tandem if Denver picked up Kyle?

I'm sure that won't happen, because Kyle is likely trying to coach his own team asap. But it'd still be neat-o.
