  • Former Ram seeks compensation for Super Bowl loss

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A lawsuit filed Friday by a former St. Louis Rams player and others seeks millions of dollars in damages from the alleged taping of Rams practices by the New England Patriots before the 2002 Super Bowl.

The Patriots won the game 20-17 in the Superdome.

The $100 million suit, filed on behalf of former Rams player Willie Gary in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, names the Patriots, team owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick.

And the story continues to get more and more interesting. Just think of all those gamblers that lost $$$ thanks to the Patri*ts!!!

That's just going too far I think. How can they prove that the Patriots had enough of an advantage to change the outcome of the game?

I guess I can understand where the guy might think he might have a case but its a loooonnnng shot.

Actually you can thank Roger Goodell as well. What an arrogant P.O.S. Its amazing that he handed out the punishment prior to seeing the tapes and calls his decision "justified."

I suppose they are both to blame then.
Even when the patriots lose they get the spotlight.

this is starting to look like the Bismarck or the Titanic or hindenburg, or just about any disaster for the Pats org.

True, very true. However (in my best Stephen A. Smith), the very large target that is currently present on them for running up the score on numerous teams and calling themselves the "greatest team ever" continues to grow by the day. Unfortunately, the Patri*ts will probably make the playoffs next year because of a very weak AFC East, but they will not make it out of the first round, mark my word. Yes, that last sentence was to you PatsCr*wEater & G*TTAL*VEPATS. But thats for another forum and I will take it there later on this year.

I doubt this guy will even get any money at all. Perhaps this will get Mr. Kraft's attention and have him take some action against Billichick. I find it hard to believe that Billichick missed the two memos from the NFL that stated that it was illegal to tape opposing teams signals.

It does say "by a former St. Louis Rams player and others" so I wonder who the others are. It does seem an awful lot of money for just one guy. That sounds like the entire Rams organization should be suing for that much.

Anyway, I'll just be happy if this helps bring out whatever video and other evidence that Walsh guy is supposed to have.

I doubt very much that they will win any lawsuit. D1ck Vermeil said that he considered the practices in question to be semi-public and purposely did not show anything important.

All the defense will have to do is show that quote and the case will be thrown out, if it even makes it to court.

I have a feeling the folks bringing the suit are just trying to milk the spygate thing for whatever it may be worth.

Yeah, I would be more worried about the Mob guys who may have lost money on these games not knowing the "Fix" was in, or who knows, maybe they set the whole thing up.

They couldn't tape the Super Bowl this year was there was too much Heat because they got caught taping the Jets. (Why)

Or maybe I'm in withdrawal because the Final Sopranos episode was so bad I need a mob fix.

Maybe I'll go watch Goodfellas again.
