Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

I was watching a rerun of Total Access and Rod Woodson said that with the addition of Deangelo Hall, the Raiders now have the best CB tandem! I was shocked that he actually thought that. I mean, Asumogha(sp? probably wrong, I can't even pronounce it right) isn't all that good to be considered #2 of the best CB tandem. One more thing the Broncos have to prove to the world.
Rod Woodson is a former Raider the last 2 years of his carerer - he's just throwing support behind his team blindly. The truth is that DeAngelo Hall was a HUGE waste of money and isn't even that great. Just because you give someone a bloated contract haphazardly doesn't mean that they are worth the money. Al Davis will learn the hard way in the coming seasons. Rod Woodson is a moron if he really believes that.
We saw what the "Best CB Tandem" moniker did for Champ and Dre. Truth is, it starts up front. If those guys up front can't get pressure, then "Best CB Tandem" doesn't mean a whole lot.

This is very true... And the Raiders do have a good d-line that can create pressure. However, I think the linebackers are suspect, and their safeties to be average. Huff has been good, but not necessarily great (top 10 pick too...) But the corners are physical but both have a tendency to bite on fakes, play action, or double moves by receivers.
As a measure of pure physical talent, Champ and Dre have the upper hand. But that still hinges on how much improved our defensive line is this year. Cp to you yardo for a good post!

According to a lot of scouts, Asomougha and Rashean Mathis (Jacksonville) were the two highest graded corners in the league last year. Champ Bailey and Antonio Cromartie were right below them. Just because you don't know who Asomougha is doesn't mean that he's not a good player.
I think when you are breaking down CB corps, Philadelphia, San Diego, Denver, and Oakland are 1-4, and there's a big dropoff after that. I'd rate Philly and SD higher than Oakland and Denver because they have better options at the nickle spot. I also like Quentin Jammer and Sheldon Brown better than the somewhat overrated Dre Bly and vastly overrated Hall. They aren't as flashy as Bly and Hall, but they are a LOT better in run support and don't get burned for long completions.
Philadelphia stands on top right now, but they have some question marks with Lito Sheppard possibly departing, and it remains to be seen if Asaunte Samuel can transition his game from New England to Philly style. In New England, they used a lot of exotic coverages and allowed their CBs to freelance a lot in order to cover up what was in reality a mediocre overall secondary. Samuel might not perform as well in a more disciplined scheme.

Thanks man. The D-line may be suspect this year as well. They did lose Sapp to retirement and overpaid for Tommy Kelly to fill the void. We'll have to see how they live up to the hype.
Kirk Morrison and Thomas Howard are two of the best young linebackers in the game. I'd kill for either one of them.
Young is the key word there. Lots of variables, they are good, but still suspect to pass coverage as well as over pursuit in the run. They need to work on maintaining gap assignment as well.

I never said I don't know who he is, I said I had a hard time pronouncing his name and that I didn't think he was good enough to put them at #1. You seem to agree since you have them at #4. As for the nickel, out of Foxy, Paymah, and Williams there should emerge a good nickel. IDK if Denver would be #1, but they're definitely better than the Raiders.

Good call.
The Raiders have a really good corner in Asomugha. The guy is physical and fast, and he's only going to get better.
The addition of Hall can only help. People want to look at his bad press the past couple of years, but if you asked me if I wanted him on my team, I'd say YES.
Think of it, he's only 24 years old, and is still in the upper part of the league in best corners after only 5 years in the NFL.
He's faster then lightening, and will also only get better. The Raiders had to dish some money out to get him, but really this was one of their better expenses.
I'd still put Champ and Bly first, but the argument of Asomugha and Hall is valid. Asomugha is probably the top young corner in the NFL. He doesn't get his dues because he plays for a horrible team, but he's an up and coming superstar. Hall is the one that is overrated, but he's still a big play guy. I'd put the Raiders corners 3rd at the moment, behind the Broncos and Eagles (Lito Sheppard and Asante Samuel).

I guess it's a shame that Philli's corners are all they really have going for them. I hope they can deliver, because they are going to spend an awful lot of time on the field behind the Eagles sputtering offense.
I also hope Hall doesn't trip over his ego on the way to make a play.
Hard to argue with the Chargers line, but with all of my heart and soul... I'd like to.
As for the "overrated" Bly. Well I suppose it's a matter of opinion. If your counting last years performance then you can just throw that out the window. Our line was so awful last year our corners had to constantly play out of position. As so many others have said, It starts up front. I expect Bly to improve this season with Bates gone, and a bolstered D-line. I guess we will see wont we.
Not too many of you think of Bly as a great corner because of his performance last year getting beaten. But honestly, that is totally the fault of the lack of run defense. Even Champ played poorly last year. As someone who watched Bly for many years in Detroit, I know the guy is talented. Bailey and Bly ARE the best CB tandem in the league and are better than Oakland. Bly is better than Hall and Bailey is better than that Aso guy. Now that we have better run support, better linebackers and even better safeties, look for Bly to have an amazing year.
Yeah i'd take hall over bly anyday...oh and there backers are not suspect at all I live in sacramento 45 mins away frm oakland so i see damn near every game and i go 2 atleast 2 games a year in oakland "cuz my dad is a raider fan" and yeah they are probably one of the better line backing tadems in the league...and dont forget the abilities to get int's i think howard was top 10 in int's last year with atleast 6 and morrison had a high number of picks also if anything on the oakland d is suspect its gotta be there safties wilson is good but huff is jus average...but then again he would start on our team...i hate to say this but on defense oakland looks better on paper...but hey last year we looked GREAT on paper and it was a long, long, long, season for us...so i guess looking good on paper doesnt mean much unless your the patriots...
