Carl Peterson To Resign After Season

Longtime Kansas City Chiefs President and General Manager Carl Peterson has resigned amid one of the worst seasons in franchise history.

“On behalf of my family and the entire Kansas City Chiefs organization, I want to thank Carl for his two decades of service to the Chiefs,” owner Clark Hunt said in a statement. “Both Carl and I agreed that immediately initiating the search for the next Chiefs General Manager would be the best thing for the future of the organization, and he will be resigning following the 2008 season.”

Peterson has been with the Chiefs since 1989, leading the team to a 176-141-1 record and four AFC West titles

“I am proud of my association with the Kansas City Chiefs and our many accomplishments over the last 20 years,” Peterson said in the team’s statement. “I thank the Hunt family for the opportunity to lead the Chiefs organization and sincerely appreciate all the coaches, players, administrators and Chiefs employees with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working in my time here. Most importantly, I want to thank Chiefs fans around the country for their passionate support through the years. Chiefs fans are the finest in all of professional football.”

Speculation will now begin about whether the next general manager will want to keep head coach Herm Edwards.

It leads me to speculate that Hunt will make a strong push for a coach with more authority in the personel department like a Cowher or a Schottenheimer........

I called Carl Peterson being done in Kansas City just last week, although I admit I didn't think it would come until after the conclusion of the season. Back in August, I heard from a friend down in Houston, who was dating a girl who is very close to the Hunt family, and I was told (not by my friend, but by the girl herself) that anything but a playoff appearance would result in the termination of Herman Edwards & Carl Peterson.

Carl isn't resigning on his own terms...Clark Hunt laid it out plain and simple, you either resign, or I'm gonna fire your ass, take your pick.

2 more games, and I can pretty much say it'll be safe to say that we'll be seeing the firing of Herman Edwards in Kansas City as well.

Clark Hunt is a man who wants results, he won't sit idly by and allow mediocrity as his old man did. Clark likes money, but he wants to win too, and he won't settle for an uncompetitive team.

So Who Gets Canned This Year?

Well from what I can tell the following Head Coaches will be on the chopping block. Looks like it's gonna be a busy off season for the NFL, as I see potentially 10 teams that will be looking to hire new head coaches, and at least 3 teams looking to hire new GM's. I definitely forsee minimum 6 of the 10 definitely being shown the door.


Rod Marinelli - Detroit Lions (going 0-16 will get you shown the door very quickly in the NFL. I doubt that a win will even save his job though.)

Herman Edwards - Kansas City Chiefs (3 seasons with the Chimps and he's declined in each season going from 9-7 to 4-12, to most likely 2-14. bye Sperm Edwards, you're a buffoon, and you are worthless as a head coach...go back to being a defensive coordinator. Remember: you're supposed to play to win the game...not lose them...)

**** Jauron - Buffalo Bills (after getting off to a hot 4-0 record, the Bills have been a big disappointment this season, **** Jauron is to blame, but is anyone really surprised? He was after all a flop in Chicago as well as everywhere else he's gone in the NFL.)

Wade Phillips - Dallas Cowboys (so long Tubby, you were mediocre everywhere else in the league (Buffalo & Denver) you went as a head coach, I have yet to figure out why Jerry Jones thought any different 2 years ago....)

Romeo Crennel - Cleveland Browns (from playoff contender, back to being that nasty little skidmark in the NFL's underwear once again...bye bye Romeo, the Browns are about to welcome back Martyball.)

Tom Cable - Oakland Raiders (I'm surprised Davis hasn't fired this tub of worthless fader lard yet. Tom Cable is a bigger joke than Lane Kiffin, Davis shoulda stuck with what he had, but oh well, he's getting what he deserves, his next coach will be just as big of a loser as the previous 4 or 5).

Gary Kubiak - Houston Texans (I hate to say it but I don't think Kubiak is getting the job done in Houston, and this being his 3rd season, the team is regressing yet again...I don't see management retaining him. Good luck wherever you end up Kubiak).

Norv Turner - San Diego Chargers (How could anyone keep this moron as their head coach? He's all but run one of the NFL's best teams into the ground. Adios muchacho.)

Marvin Lewis - Cincinnati Bengals (Despite the owner's vow to keep Marv Lewis on for 2009, I think that's all show to keep the players together until the end of the season. Marv hasn't gotten the job done in Cincy, and hasn't made the playoffs since 2005. His message is no longer getting through to his players and he doesn't have a disciplined squad.)

Jack Del Rio - Jacksonville Jaguars (He's borderline. It could go either way...he could keep his job or he could lose it. His players are not buying into what he's selling anymore, and they're gonna miss the playoffs after
going 13-3 last year.)


GM Firings.

Phil Savage - Cleveland Browns (hasn't gotten it done, despite better drafting in recent years. Cussing out a Browns fan and telling him to go root for Buffalo via email didn't help his case any either. Replacement: Marty Schottenheimer as Head Coach/GM)

Carl Peterson - Kansas City Chiefs (I think Clark Hunt will reach his breaking point after this season concludes, and will buyout Peterson's remaining year on his contract and send him and his buddy Herm Edwards packing. Petersons 5 year Super Bowl Plan has long expired, and everyone's tired of his bs and poor recent draft choices, as well as the direction of the team. Replacement: Who Knows.)

John Guy - Buffalo Bills (GM/VP of Player Personnel. He's as responsible as **** Jauron for this team not making the playoffs and for this years flop. Replacement: Who Knows.)

The Chimps were never a powerhouse. they had good teams, but they were not powerhouses.

From 1993 - 1999, the Chiefs didn't win a damn playoff game. (still haven't won a playoff game from 1993 - Present, so all but 5 years of Peterson's 20 year worthless existence in Kansas City, the Chiefs went without a playoff win.)

I wouldn't go that far...lol. I watched that team for 26 years, growing up in KC.

It it weren't for Carl Peterson, they wouldn't have been half as good as they were in the 90's.

Carl Peterson had some great draft picks. Neil Smith, Derrick Thomas, Tony Gonzales, Donnie Edwards to name a few. He had some damn fine FA acquisitions too. Joe Montana, Marcus Allen, Eddie Kennison, Trent Green.

that said, Carl Peterson was a money man, he filled those seats, and made a handsome profit for the Hunts. He was good in that sense, but he in all honesty had his hands in the football operations side of things too much and he didn't back off when he should have.

His big failures were never drafting a developing a solid rookie QB. Sure they took all them no name punks, Blundin, Vlasic, and god knows who else, but they never amounted to anything. and his other main failure was not winning a playoff game after the 1993 dream season. his other failure was firing Gunther Cunningham after his second season to bring in his best friend **** Vermeil. That was just wrong, you dont stab people in the back like that, and let them find out they've been fired over the internet. I guess this is Carl's chickens coming home to roost finally. Payback's a ***** ain't it Carl?

Good post! :salute!: The Peterson era has come to an end...I am happy.I don't believe this mean the Chiefs will be contenders next season but hopefully this move puts them on the right track to better seasons ahead.
