Walker will get a second chance in Oakland

    March 5, 2009 4:51 PM

    Posted by ESPN.com's Bill Williamson

Javon Walker is staying with the Oakland Raiders.

The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Walker restructured his contract and will save Oakland $8 million in salary-cap room this season. The huge cut allows Walker to stay in Oakland and try to salvage his career with the team that gave him a six-year, $55 million contract last year.

Walker had a disastrous 2008, suffering an ankle injury that ended his season early. Three of Walker's past four seasons have been seriously affected by injuries. He had just 15 catches last season.

Because of his injury history and his advancing age (30), it may be too much to expect Walker to be an effective top receiver again. But he still has a chance to be a contributor.

This move was good for both Walker and the Raiders. Walker likely wouldn't have gotten much interest had he refused to take a pay cut and been released. The move gives the Raiders another option at receiver and clears up room.

Also, if the Raiders end up pursuing Terrell Owens, Walker will not get in the way because he will likely be a rotation receiver anyway.

Good for us, and somewhat happy his career has taken a nose dive considering how he treated us....

I just hope Oakland does not sign T.O.

Walker/T.O. could be a deadly combo at 100%

I'd be more worried if the Raiders re-signed Tim Brown.

                Umm... good one?

Oh, wait, no. That was lame. So's your sig.

Maybe Walker will get "abducted" again! You know, where he is shown on casino cameras walking out of a place with two guys he says "carried" him out. Maybe that'll happen.
                In Manning I trust.

Your sig should say Darren "The Terrell Davis and Broncos' Fan" McFadden. Unfortunately he wasn't as lucky as his pal Peyton Hillis.

It's only a matter of time before he gets beat up in Vegas and gets his purse snatched again.

His 15 catches are worth 3.4375 million a piece...

I call that a steal! :salute!:

I was watching Javon kick ass for us against Cincy in '06 tonight, actually. He was great that year.

Yeah, it didn't end well and he pissed me off too, but something happened to Javon while in Denver that shook him. I feel bad for the guy, honestly.
