Rogers-Mangini rift still unresolved
Apparently, the internal rift between Pro Bowl defensive tackle Shaun Rogers and new Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini remains unresolved.
According to a source, Rogers has been a no-show this week for the team's offseason workout program, which began Monday.
While the workouts are considered voluntary, Mangini has made it clear that he wants his players in attendance because it was his first chance to address the team in a group setting.
Mangini and Rogers have clashed for nearly two months when the coach initially refused to communicate with his star player, despite being in the same place on two separate occasions. Rogers didn't take the snubs lightly, as things escalated to the point where he asked to be released from his six-year, $42 million contract.
Rogers is guaranteed a $5 million bonus this month, making the player's release unlikely, and should earn an additional $950,000 in likely-to-be-reached incentives when he's on the field. Mangini has since attempted to reach out to Rogers, but his absence this week makes it clear that there is still much work to be done to patch up the relationship.
The eight-year veteran had one of his best seasons in 2008, registering 76 tackles and 4.5 sacks. The Browns finished 4-12 last season.

Tony Scheff straight up for Rogers?
Also, the only way we deal Cutler... Is if CLE or KC gets involved. I really think Bowlen wants to see if there can be a truce... move one with things. BUT, if that isn't possible... The Jets, maybe the Redskins are chomping for Jay.
Both of those owners are not shy when it comes to spending... risks... all that jazz. ESPECIALLY Woody in NY, where they need to sell tickets... fill seats... compete in the papers against the Giants. What a way to complete this off-season's transformation than to bring in Cutler.
AND, even if WASH isn;t all-in for Cutler... just the rumor alone will help drive up the price. Obviously, a third team would have to be involved.
I can sense something here... If anything works out...
DEN gets Quinn, Rogers, Jet's #1, Jets #3
CLE gets Scheff, Jet's #1 next year and a player from NYJ
Jets get Cutler
Sounds crazy until you recall that Mangini just left the Jets... I am sure there are a few players he wouldn;t mind taking with him (maybe a David Harris).
I guess this would be the only way I would consider dealing Cutler... Getting a young QB, a NT, and two picks.
If we traded for Cassell staright up... I would puke.
BUT... if NY is involved, this is good. Rogers fighting in CLE is good, and the fact that Mangini is not in love with Quinn is good.
Like McD... Mangini wants to go with his guy. He probably doesn't want to feel the pressure to make Quinn (the local hero) his QB.
I think the first (and best) move is to keep Cutler. BUT, if things are broken beyond repair: give me Quinn, Rogers, a first and another 2-3 round pick.
