  • Would the Giants have won the Superbowl with Philip Rivers?

    Just wondering...

Do you guys think that the Giants would have won the Superbowl with Rivers instead of Eli?

  • #2
Naw, Nobody would have won the Superbowl with Rivers. Although the Chargers might have won a few with Eli.

I'm sooooo glad Eli didn't want to play for that horrible city.

    @ Rivers. I'm glad hes a Charger.

Rivers has the confidence of a 13 year old girl, and the mobility of her 75 year old grandma.
          So no, no way.

A playmaker? Just because of that one throw he made to David Tyree in the super bowl he's suddenly a playmaker? Come on now, that was a once in a lifetime type of play which I guarantee Eli Manning and Tyree couldn't pull off again if their lives depended on it; the fact that Tyree caught the ball with his helmet with two Patriots players roughing him up just goes to show how amazing of a catch it was for someone who sat on the bench all year.

Philip Rivers is way better than Eli Manning; it's not even close in my opinion. Manning only won the super bowl because his defense was on fire throughout the playoffs that year; go back and check the stats, the Giants weren't winning because of Manning, and even in the super bowl he didn't do anything for 3 1/2 quarters; it wasn't until the end of the 4th quarter that he actually did anything of value.

Eli Manning is like another Ben Roethlisberger; an average QB who benefits from having a great defense. Meanwhile, Rivers has shown that he can carry his team even when his defense completely sucks as they did this past year. Rivers could definitely win a super bowl on the Giants and I'd say he'd have won more than one by now if he were on the Giants.

Rivers also has to compete with the Patriots, Colts, and Steelers in the playoffs if he wants to make it to the super bowl whereas Eli Manning's biggest competition is the Cowboys who have shown themselves to be a joke of a team, and an aging Eagles team.

hm i wonder why. Actualy eli has shown a lot of playmaking ability throughout his whole career, but you can live in fairy tale world where the chargers are so amazing and every player is so great. Then you can realize these chargers havent been to the superbowl and they're a bunch of overhyped athletes

                  I think so, easily.

They probably would have came closer last year too with Rivers instead of Eli.

Let’s just ask his former offensive coordinator, noted QB guru Norm Chow:

That’s high praise from a coach with an impressive resumé and Norm knows what he’s talking about. He knows a good quarterback when he sees one too – in addition to Rivers at NC State, Chow also coached Steve Young & Robbie Bosco at BYU, and 3 different Heisman Trophy winners Ty Detmer,(@BYU) Carson Palmer & Matt Leinart(@USC).

Eli Manning made a real good escape and was fortunate that his veteran WR came down with that pass under very difficult circumstances, but his defense kept the Giants in that game and Manning also threw a pass right to cornerback Asanté Samuel, which was dropped with less than 2:00 to go in the contest on that game winning drive. Eli has always benefitted from superior supporting talent and a dominant defense as well, and the AFC postseason field is considerably tougher than the NFC’s. In this conference, you’re always going to have Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Big Ben blocking your path to the big game, and usually more than one of them.

I don't see Eli being mentally tough enough to go through that grinder year after year and have any success, especially since he's always been intimidated by his big brother and probably still is today. Heck, he can't even handle the wind at his home stadium, so I just can't picture him winning playoff games at Baltimore, Pittsburgh or New England. Before any of you bring up that Green Bay game, I'll remind you that Brett Favre lost it more than Eli won it, and his kicker needed 3 different tries to kick the game winning field goal - most playoff teams aren't going to give you that many chances, it was a fluke.

We all know that Philip Rivers is both mentally & physically tough, even if many of you won't admit it.

We’re all glad that Rivers is a Charger, there isn’t another QB in the league hat I’d trade him for at this point and even though your whining former QB is now shivering his tail off in Chicago, looking at his roster devoid of offensive talent and wondering what the heck he was thinking, Philip Rivers will continue his complete mastery (5-1, the “1” being the infamous “Ed Hochuli” robbery) of your team.
