How far will Hester's athleticism take him?

Not nearly as far as good route running and actually catching the ball would. I was watching the news coverage of the Bears OTA's last week and every single shot of Hester was him dropping a pass from Cutler...
I hate to see what the Bears have done to the most exciting return man in the game. He went from being the most dynamic returner to a mediocre receiver and hesitant punt returner.
Good thing for the Bears that Manning stepped in nicely on kick returns last year.Originally posted by Broncoholic3233FF is awesome!

Other than misspelling Rod Marinelli(I'm only nitpicking b/c you published this article), I thought it was pretty good. Although Devin Hesters physical talents cannot be questioned, it is his football IQ(or lack thereof)that allows him to play only one position effectively in the NFL. His drop-off in return productions were a result of what your article stated, plus he didn't take what opposing ST's were giving up in cushion to prevent TD's. I don't see Hester having a pro-bowl caliber year. What amazes me are all of the non-Bear fans who think Hester will be the #1 target of Cutler. I sure hope opposing coaching staffs are thinking along the same lines.
We have a TE from Miami as well, Greg Olsen will get more balls from Jay.

Hi Flat,
Hope your holiday went well. I love Hester, but he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. They tried using him as DB in Miami, he couldn't learn the plays in time to be effective.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to more excitement when the Bears have the ball this season. I just think there will be lots of dropped balls and forced throws to the WR's that result in interceptions.Originally posted by Broncoholic3233FF is awesome!

I just noticed the bars, I was posting more for a while with the influx of Bear fans here. Now that the BlackHawks are done(I hate Detoilet!), attention will focus on the Bears and the Cubs recent antics. Earl Bennett has been overlooked as well, he was injured early last year and then underutilized. Nonetheless, the position is still of concern. Here's my scenario for 2009:
The Bears go 10-6, sneak into the playoffs and get sent home with a one and done. Cutler will struggle due to poor coaching and finally snap after the first playoff loss. Fans will blame Lovie Smith and Ron Turner. They can't blame our GM in 09' b/c Jerry Angelo gave the media and the fans what they wanted in the off-season via the Cutler trade.
Memorial Day was awesome, I should have posted more pics from the service. I drank too much beer and ate too many brats afterwards.
Originally posted by Flatlander Fan View PostYeah, Jay has shown an affinity for a good pass catching TE in his time with Scheffler. I expect Olsen to benefit greatly (perhaps the most of any single player) from Cutler being on the Bears. There's a problem, though, when the leading receivers on your team aren't receivers but RB's and TE's, don't you think?

On the topic of Bennett - what I've heard is that he had trouble learning the playbook last year and that's why he wasn't used. Any signs that he's showing development yet or is it too early?
Each year I try to go to Bears TC, but am too busy. I hope to make it there this year since it's only about 90 minutes away.Originally posted by Broncoholic3233FF is awesome!

Cutler's cannon and Hester's unreal speed, it could be a weapon.
He'll definitely have to be accounted for downfield, and should open things up underneath.
Thank you Skywalker for the Marshall sig!

Thank you Damien and Darrent for the memories. You will never be forgotten!

He missed too much time early on due to being on IR. It's too early, there just aren't enough reps given until Bourbonale(intentional misspell). I have real concerns about Cutler, he still needs development and our QB coach has a very poor resume.
The beer and brats were at a BBQ, the photos are here at the bottom of page 3:
