Browns' Stallworth enters not-guilty plea in DUI manslaughter case

    Associated Press

The plea was entered at a brief court hearing Thursday by defense attorney Christopher Lyons. The 28-year-old Stallworth did not appear in court. A trial date has not been set.

Stallworth faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. Police say Stallworth was driving drunk after a night on the town when he struck and killed 59-year-old Mario Reyes on a Miami Beach causeway.

Stallworth is free on $200,000 bail and is required to abstain from alcohol and observe a curfew; he is also not allowed to drive.

Before Cleveland, he played for New England, Philadelphia and New Orleans in the NFL and in college for Tennessee.

I find that disturbing, but not surprising. Is Stallworth's case going to be that it was the dead man's fault for jaywalking?????? Maybe the guy who was killed is the one who was buying drinks for Stallworth.......

It was just a preliminary hearing, entering a not guilty plea is simply posturing by the defense in hopes of a reduced sentence later on in this case. It's pretty cut and dry, his bac. was above the legal limit according to Florida statutes. Jaywalking is very common in South Florida b/c crosswalks are spaced further apart. They don't use standard city blocks down there.

At any rate, he's guilty but his attorney isn't going to do anything until after the discovery court date when the evidence is obtained from the States Attorney.

        That's a misquote.

Stallworth didn't "play" in Cleveland. He sat most of the season on injured reserve and when he was in the active lineup he sucked.

He should do everybody a favor and drop his plea and plead guilty. Get another criminal off the streets.
The Browns are gone; I'm not a fan of the Impostors

The real Browns are in Baltimore, see?

He was already in the league substance abuse program in New England, and performed poorly there on the field. He has a long history of hamstring problems, yet the Browns signed him to a 7 year 35M contract anyways just last year.

          Why?

Yeah, and it's that kind of "posturing" that costs the people/tax payer money and wastes a lot of time. That type of **** pisses me off to no end.

Sorry but the man who got hit DOES bear some responsibility for jaywalking.. Had Stallworth not been drunk he probably wouldn't even have been charged with a crime.

Sadly Stallworth did what MANY people do.. He got smashed the night before slept it oiff and woke up still a little drunk.

                      Go ask Phil Savage why.

Why? Crossing the street illegally at a very busy interscection is a risk, and if someone happens to you you certainly do bear some fault.

Or are you talking about the last part? The liver can only process a small amount of alcohol at a time, so if someone was piss drunk at midnight they will certainly still be a little bit in the morning. Many people mistakenly believe that "sleeping" it off cures it. It does not.

I'm not saying Stallworth shouldn't be prosecuted either, he should. But IMO both parties are at fault.
