    so either williamson is on it as usual and got 1/2 the story, or this radio interview didn't do the real story justice?

    RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Some Chiefs fans have gotten nervous about new quarterback Matt Cassel because he struggled in a scrimmage and was not overly impressive in Kansas City's preseason opener.

    Kansas City coach Todd Haley, however, is not concerned. In fact, he has been quite impressed with the quarterback, whom the Chiefs traded for this offseason.

    "He has a chance to be special," Haley said.

    Haley came to Kansas City from Arizona where he was the offensive coordinator. He was always impressed by the work ethic of Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner. Cassel reminds Haley of Warner.

    'They're very similar in the way they approach the game," Haley said. "Football is all Matt thinks about, just like Kurt. He's thinks about it all the time. He texts me about the game all the time. It's just who he is. He's very serious about this .... He's going to be very good."
    so what gives?

      There's a HUGE difference between taking a phone call and shopping a guy. Since we don't have proof of McD actually shopping Cutler, but do have a story about McD taking a phone call to trade Cutler, we'll just go with McD took a phone call.

      And I agree with Gideon333. I think you're seriously over-estimating Jay Cutler. The kid has a hard time reading defenses. I noticed that in '06, but didn't like that it didn't get better in '07 and '08. Can you learn to read defenses? Sure. But what's stopped Cutler from learning that in his first 3 years in the league? Why do you think Shanny roled him out so much when he was struggling? The guy can't read the field? Let's see if he can read half of the field. And he could, for the most part.

        With absolutely no running game...and last year we had none...we only had the pass option and the defenses were geared to stop it. So, it would be tough on anyone when they know you're going to throw. And, we were.

        It's one thing to read defenses when you can keep them guessing, but it's more complicated when they're always in a scheme against the pass. Most of the advantage of reading a defense comes when you catch moves made to stop the runner or defenses which are trying to stop both in one. Our offense was one sided which makes it tough on any QB. That's why rarely does a QB w/o a run game do well.

        If all you had to do was be good at reading defenses, you could sit and throw all day. But for two years...and worse each year...our run game was nothing.

        But I'll agree on the McD call...can leave it at that. On Jay, we'll see later!
        John and TD should get their own wing in Canton.

          Are you kidding me? Absolutely no running game? They were ranked 12th and 2nd in the NFL in yards per carry?

          Since that was your premise, I didnt read the rest of the dribble. Which it had to have been .

          Oh wait, Michael Pittman must have been so much better than Selvin Young, who was so much better than Andre Hall. They were basic exact copies of one another and Hillis was the best one.

          I thought Pope and Bell both did admirably. In fact Bell ran about the same as 05 for his few games. Worked for Plummer.

          Cutler sucks and way overrated by the hype. You just buy right into it cause of the yards thing.

          Damn broken record.

            Hey, the fact he did well under Mcdaniels system actually makes Mcdaniels look better.

            You know Griese was a pro bowler under Shanahan and then left and was really nothing for anyone else.

              I would rather have McDaniels/Cassel, Instead of McDaniels/Orton.

                Not surprised.

                Cassel = System QB

                Cassel = 1 year wonder

                  I would rather have McDaniels/Cutler, but that's been ruled out.

                  Hell if we bring in Cassel, he'll have nobody to throw it to but Eddie Royal. Gaffney is not a threat to any defense. Stokley is one injury away from losing significant playing time.

                      KC was completely stupid not to see he was a system QB to begin with, and even stupider for betting the house on him.

                      Serves them right.

                      Good on Matt for getting paid too. Bad decisions are a theme with that team. No matter how bad things get here in Denver... Our FO may be wrong or they may not be as right as we hope, but at least they're not flat out stupid.

                          From day one I said the Chiefs were idiots for paying this guy 60 mill. They're really not gonna be happy with that investment.

                              yeah, because when you're only "taking phone calls", you can never be "late to the dance" right, like mcdaniels himself was quoted?

                              so what, he took a bathroom break when pioli called and pioli never called again and therefore he was "late to the dance", so he says?!

                                Multiple people have confirmed that the call came to McDaniels from one of the other teams, and that the "deal" was already well underway by the time he got the call. It's also been said by "unnamed people involved in the trade negotiations" that the Broncos were not seriously involved and that the trade was a long-shot, which may explain why New England and KC opted to simplify the deal and take the other parties out of it entirely.

                                Even Bus Cook acknowledged that McDaniels only took the phone call initially and heard what the other guys said. Even Cutler's own agent never contested the idea that McDaniels wasn't genuinely interested in a trade.

                                It's been pretty well covered and beaten to death that McDaniels was not "shopping" Cutler around and that he simply took the phone calls and heard what others had to say/offer.

                                Even Cutler's own guys don't dispute that.

                                Of course acknowledging that and admitting it makes it hard for people to villainize McDaniels, so they tend to ignore it and not want to hear it - because then they can't blame it on McDaniels as easily. God forbid we let the facts get in the way, amirite?

                                You're right to phrase it that way, Crazy 8, but the people that insist on seeing it the other way regardless of what the people involved say won't be listening to you anyway; that would require them to meet someplace closer to the middle and take all the fun out of their hate party.
