Tarkenton is for sure there, and I don't as many don't, consider Eli Manning a franchise QB just yet.

I'd say Plummer and Warner for Arizona. I know Warner is at the end of his career, but I think he still warrants the "frachise QB" moniker after their run to the SB last year.

Other than that, I pretty much agree with your list.

Franchise QB's don't come around very often, but the real problem is that only time will tell prove whether a QB will be that, no matter how much talent they have, which is evidenced by guys like Jeff George.

I view a franchise QB as one who will play for your team for about a decade or more and barring some career ending injury, Eli will do that for the Giants. He was tthe only one of the so-called "Big 3" that they wanted in 2004, and they wanted him so badly that they were willing to draft Rivers for us, and send him out west along with 3 other draft picks.

He won a Superbowl with them and was named MVP of the game and after that big money contract extention, the Giants couldn't get rid of him even if they ever wanted to.

That's a good point. I'm still shocked at the amount of money they threw at him, considering TALENT wise, most would consider him slightly above average. I will say he has that "It" factor that most don't have, and for whatever reason, his teams really rally around him.

I'm kind of in the minority when it comes to what I consider a Franchise QB.

I view one as a player who will play around 8+ years with a given team, winning games and championships is the most important stat while all individual statistics fall way below it. Stabilizing an organization is also a big factor.

Which is why...

I would definitely say Eli Manning is one simply because he has a Super Bowl ring, was the MVP of that game and will be with his team likely until he decides to retire as another poster pointed out. Also, the Giants have been a legit team for a while and until they got Eli, they were one of them teams that would have one solid year followed by 2-3 bad ones.

Other than that...I agree with just about everyone else on that list.

Given that many thought Eli and Coughlin would be out of NY after 2007 before a great post season run. Eli's only secure season as QB was 2008. Lets see how he does the next couple seasons. Football contracts aren't guaranteed. You never know how this will unfold.

You don't think Ken Anderson deserves to be called a franchise QB? Jim McMahon? Matt Hasselbeck?

Jim McMahon was has a ring. Hasselbeck and Anderson both led teams to conference championships. All three had several years of tenure with their teams. And as far as stats go, it's hard to argue with Anderson, at least.
