  • Just read this in Don Banks "Snap Judgements" on SI.com

Hope I'm not repeat posting but here it is.

    • With 11 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions through his first six games, it's getting tougher all the time to make the case that Jay Cutler has been a difference maker in Chicago.
At the very least, he's no Kyle Orton.

Just found it amusing because more often than not Don is hard a$$ when it comes to the Broncos.

This is my first post by the way.

    Cheers

I try to stay out of Cutler stuff, but I can say that Cutler has absolutely been a difference maker. He had 3 picks today. How can that not make a difference?

The best part of Cutler is he just got paid. Talk about not getting your $$$ worth.

I'll just make it clear that I was one of Cutler's biggest apologists (within my group of football fan friends) but he did make his bed. I actually feel bad for him. Every time he screws up people will always wonder "what if?" He was... is such a talent. Would have like to seen what young McD could have done with that talent. Shame

To be fair he's in a worse situation then he was last year. The Bears defense can't stop anyone, the O-line can't stop anyone, Forte is useless, and he's throwing 35+ times /game playing from behind. At least he had an awesome O-Line and excellent WR's and TE's when he was here. His stats are still the same, when the defense holds their end he wins, when the suck and he has to constantly play catch-up, he sucks. Last season most of his int's were boneheaded, this year they're all out of desperation as to not get sacked and injured. Chicago neglected to get anything necessary to make him successful. They opted for Orlando Pace instead. And the last two weeks show the error in their ways. And the flip of that is you give Orton a #1 (screw yards, points against is what counts) defense, the best O-line in the league, and one of the best recv' corps in the NFL, he's just to field smart to lose that. So Kyle stepped into sunshine while Cutler stepped in poop!

Well I just find it hilarious how the whole time he was with the Broncos they never really made a big fuss about him. Now that he's with the Bears, he's an MVP candidate on ESPN.com, even though his numbers and record are horrid.

I try to stay out of this stuff because its old history. But when I see things like today transpire, and I think about how the Bears fans crowned him the greatest QB since Sid Luckman, even before he played a single game, all I can say is . . .

What's even more amazing is the fact that he just got an extension, but then again so did Jake Delhomme.

There is no doubt that Cut has all the physical gifts and a huge arm, but he does not have the mental part of playing QB down by any stretch. He has a long way to go. . . who knows with some time, and some good coaching he might turn out to realize his full potential.

Note to Jamie Dukes: Cutler does not make us better.

except cutler dug his own grave in denver when we wanted out. he could've had the luxury of offensive personnel that we had, but it's obvious he didn't want to get yelled at by McD when he makes a mistake (you see McD tear his ST coordinator and Orton on a bad 3rd down throw? imagine a few picks in a game)

the sad part is that chicago can't do a whole lot to improve their team outside free agency. they don't have anyone in the system for depth purposes and they don't have their 1st-2nd rd picks for the 2010 draft

Orton dealt with the same things last year except he didnt have a Knox.Orton figured out a way to at least keep it close with that crap and was chastised about it.
"(Touchdowns) are the goal," Orton said. "You can run for as many yards as you want, throw for as many yards as you want, but you have to convert to seven points. I think we're going to be explosive, be dynamic, be versatile."

"Perception is everything in this league, and a lot of times, unless you're a self-promoter, it can become negative," - Kyle Orton

The had the same situation in Denver (except for the Dline). He had no defense, threw the ball a record number of times, played from behind for most of the season and that = 8-8 and a ProBowl. Chicago bet the farm on him, gave up a ton of picks, gave him a large extension and we're seeing the same results. To date (and this might change over the course of his career), he has not proven that he is a winner. Period!

A HUGE problem with the turnovers, is as the season wears on, his defense will be on the field much more than necessary and injuries will continue to pile up. He has great physical skills as a QB, but he has to check his ego a bit and quit trying to win the game on each and every throw.

It doesn't take an NFL expert to see Orton has been the better quarterback this year...

I'm not trying to start an argument but Cutler couldn't get out of the sunshine fast enough.

No arguments here! Not anymore 6-0 is 6-0 no matter who is the QB. Orton has done an amazing job to the point where during TC and Pre-Season I think he was giving everyone the 52 fake-out. But whatever happened behind closed doors between JC, Bowlen, Xanders, and McD, we'll never know. But it is evident that he was traded to a team on the decline. Touche McD, Touche!
