I'm sure that McNabb knows what's up. Shanny has no problem telling his players to their faces what he expects. Passive Aggressive is not his style. Permanent grudges are... just saying.

And it was reported that JaMarcus Russell checked in at 286 pounds, so he is not keeping his sorry ass in shape. The guy still is not willing to do what it takes to be a pro quarterback.
As Ochocinco put it: "If anyone else out there believes that Rex Grossman gives you a better chance than Donovan McNabb of winning a game, they need to slap they selves."

There were reportedly 19 players there at that tryout, and Russell's agent or mentor (whatever that means) has some link to the Redskins organization. They were probably just paying lip service.

Also remember that supposedly they have a bona-fide GM in Washington... (and Snyder...)

I think it's just coincidence that Russell was tried out after those comments... hilarious coincidence... but yeah.

I know this will be old news soon, but it is ironic how things play out with HCs from Denver........don't you think?

They seem to want to rile their starting QBs. Maybe Donovan is better equiped to handling this type of rejection, but quite frankly I am surprised that it happened so early into the season.

Looks like Washington will have a different starter in 11.

As TO put it, Donovan McNabb was too tired and slow to run the 2-minute offense effectively when it mattered most, in the Super Bowl. What makes anyone think that he has changed?

Even you can admit that McNabb is a better option than Rex Grossman.

Well, hubby and I will have something to laugh...um, talk about tonight when he calls.

I can't see the Skins getting Russell. It'd be funny, but I think LT might be right.

Hmm. Is Jarvis Moss a better option than the waterboy? Is Spam better than Vienna Sausage? Is a punch to the face better than a punch to the nuts? These are tough questions, and not ones that you want to have to make. McNabb has been very bad at the end of games this year, and it has been a knock on him his whole career, really. Former teammates keep coming out of the woodwork to trash McNabb's game management skills:

I respect both Coach Reid and Coach Shanahan - they have two total different coaching theories," Mitchell said. "I can only wonder what would have happened in the Super Bowl if Reid stepped up and said, ‘You know what? You're playing like [expletive], you're benched.' I don't know many coaches that have the balls to do that. He was playing like [expletive] and he should have been benched. … And don't say he doesn't have a record of this; he did the same thing in every single championship game.

I had to CP you for it. It was a pretty good post.

When push comes to shove, I would rather have McNabb in the huddle than Grossman. Maybe that's just me. Personally, whenever I watched Rex Grossman play, he didn't instill the same level of confidence compared to McNabb.

Thanks, buddy. No, of course you are right. McNabb has been a good QB in this league for a long time. Grossman is something of a joke. Not only that, but McNabb commands much more respect and confidence in the huddle. there is no doubt that McNabb is the better option, in the 2-minute drill or otherwise.

Lots of people have speculated that the move was a power play by Shanahan, to let McNabb know that he is the boss and his son Kyle is in charge of the offense. I can definitely buy into that. Mortenson (I think) said that it was the worst-kept secret in the league that there was major friction between McNabb and the Shanahans. Going forward, McNabb is absolutely the starter, but he has been told in no uncertain terms that he is on a short leash, and he has to respect Kyle's play-calling.

My main point was mainly that McNabb has been overrated for a while now, and that his days of being a top-10 QB in this league are long gone. The national press has lambasted Andy Reid and Philly fans for the way they treated him, but there is not some huge anti-McNabb conspiracy going on. He has some major limitations. The idea that he is above reproach or benching is nonsense. If Shanahan had a better option than Grossman, McNabb might be benched for real.

I just wish Shanahan would come out and say it:

"Donovan's a lard. He needs to exercise a bit more so we don't have to bench him before a 2-minute drill with the game on the line."

I don't think particularly highly of McNabb. I never have, but I'm also not sure that benching him in favor of Grossman was the smartest move Shanahan's made. Some article said it was the "good-boys-club taken to the extreme" and that "old man Shanahan is cowtowing to his son's BFF, Rex Grossman". I wouldn't go that far, but if it's true what people are saying - even ex-team members - then something needs to change.

Just not sure that benching was it, though.
