  • New England - Dynasty Over......Or Just Taking a Break?

The mighty New England Patriots haven't won a Ring since 2004, and have now lost their last 3 playoff games.........they must be done!!! Really, makes me think that Belichick and Brady are mere mortals after all. And when you think of it, the Pittsburgh Steelers need way more credit, having won 2 Rings (05 and 08) since the Pats last won a SB, and have a good shot at winning again this year. Based on my measly stats, that makes the Steelers the dynasty team, and Big Ben "The QB".

    I digress......

The Pats are legendary, and Belichick and Brady will go down as 2 of the very best at what they do. But they are in a slump of some sort. And Tom needs to get it done before he loses some of his effectiveness.

    ON THE OTHER HAND.....

The Pats were 14 and 2 this year, and almost everyone was betting on them to win it all once again. They looked unstoppable. Hard to believe they came up so short!! One thing I can say now, it sure looks like they missed a Randy Moss type after all. Someone who can break a long one....but how do you knock such an impressive team?

And here's the true upside.....just when they took a small dip a couple of years back, they seemed to rebuild the team so quickly with talented young players, still learning their jobs, that it appeared (and still appears) they will not be leaving the scene for years to come. As long as Brady stays healthy, this team is going to be tough to beat for as far out as I can see. This amazing draft process that keeps finding a way to have multiple 1sts or 2nds is scary. In 09 they picked up a first and 4 seconds.....in 10 they picked up a first and 3 seconds, and in 11 they have 2 firsts, 2 seconds and 2 thirds (so far). The talent they acquire is high quality, and therefore they do not lose momentum. In fact, with a strong Brady, this team may be better next year than this year.....14 and 2 is within reach. Amazing!

Okay......what does this all tell me? It tells me that the Pats are a team to be reckoned with for as long as I can tell. BUT it also tells me that Belichick and Brady can be beat, and have a definite mission going forward......to restore their playoff winning ways. BECAUSE, quite frankly, three straight playoff loses and no ring since 04 is not indicative of a dynasty of any sort.

As long as Belichik is there they will continue to be winners.

The way they rack up draft picks is crazy.

They got 3 picks in the top 34 picks.

    I think its like 17 , 27 , and 33.

    Plus a lot of picks.

They will reload and as long as Brady is also there they will be back.

That game yesterday was theirs to loose.

They came out flat and paid for it.
Now go get your shine box

I was surprised they crashed and burned, but not disappointed. I thought for sure they would go all the way this year.

As you pointed out it really takes a lot of the right things to put together a championship run, but sometimes its seemingly dependent on luck.

I think you could make a similar post about the Colts.

The Pats made the Super Bowl at the end of the 2007 season (January 2008) and lost to the Giants.

Brady was such a statue out there. Never seen him look so lost and confused. They will be known as the greatest cheaters in NFL history!

It is amazing to me how the Patriots continue to dominate every single year and yet they still have nobody on their team that stands out to me in my mind other then Brady..........

            AND

People keep trading all their draft picks to them, its ridiculous.

I guarantee they win another SB before 2015, don't see how they don't.

              They have....

              2 1sts

              2 2nds

              2 3rds

              1 4th

Pretty much make it 3 1sts, their 2nd from Carolina is 33rd overall.

So 7 picks in the 1st 4 rounds, maybe more, maybe less if they do what they usually do, move up or down.

I'd be surprised if they don't win a SB within the next 3 years.

Just need to keep building that defense, and get Brady a bigger threat at WR when they clearly missed Moss.

Not only do they got so many pick they almost never draft a bust.

They will probably trade #27 and pick up some second round picks.

Geez if they wanted to their in good position to pick up Julio Jones and Mark Ingram two areas of need for them.

They don't have the same defense they had during their championship years.

                      its a young D.

Its going to be real good to.

McCourtey, Chung , Butler , are all promising.

Cunningham , Mayo , Spikes , are all promising,

Ron Brace , Wilfork , Warren

                      They have good depth everywhere.

Their a good outside linebacker , and a strong safety away from being complete.

Then on offense their complete everywhere their just about a running back and a receiver away from being complete.

Tough to win Superbowls when the league makes you stop cheating, eh?

Julio Jones yes, don't think they need Ingram with the emergence of Ben Jarvis-Green Ellis.

They have some solid pieces on defense, what hurt them against the Jets is the lack of a pass rush. I'd say a 3-4 OLB is the number 1 need for them.

That's something to keep in mind. One of the reasons the Pats were so good in the playoffs was how ridiculously good they were when they played teams a second time in the season. It's been said that while their taping of signals during games may not have helped them much in that game, it helped them a lot in the rematch. The fact that they have one playoff victory (in a game they would have lost if Norv Turner had the nerve to bench a clearly ineffective Rivers and put in Volek) since the league caught onto their videotaping practices is a pretty damning indictment.

It's probably no coincidence then that the one coach that Belichick and Brady struggled against was Mike Shanahan, who has always been paranoid about the possibility of somebody stealing his signals.
Hoping for a defensive-minded head coach and a return to the ZBS on offense. At the very least, no more cheaters for head coach.

I agree they do someway somehow acquire a lot of draft picks. The key with their organization is they usually use those picks VERY well.

                              Thx,
