  • Why does no one ever make an attempt to grab a Steelers asistant?

One thing i have come to notice, is every year when there are head coaching changes, or assistant coaching changes, why arent GMs interviewing or trying to go after Steeler assistants? I mean dang, all they do is go to the AFC Championship game every other year, then every other 3 years or so it seems like they are in good position to get to a SuperBowl and Win it... So everyone goes after Patriots coaches, ravens coaches, saints coaches, hell even Mike Singletary got a job with the Vikings, as Linebackers coach. but why is it nobody is grabbing Steelers assistants and bringing a little bit of the Steeler way to their team.. Cuz they have only been doing since the Birth of the Steelers, that football team plays the same way every year, and i thought it would change when Cowher left, but Mike Tomlin just keeps the physical, aggressive Steeler football going as if no coaching change were ever even made. If you ask me.. 2 for 2 in AFC Championship games and 1 for 1 with a chance at 2 superbowl rings in 4 years would acutally Make Tomlin a better Coach already than Cowher's reign as Head Coach in which he only Got to 1 Superbowl in what 13 seasons.

I would straight start asking for interviews with Steeler assistants if i ran a team, especially on the Defensive side of the ball. Where Im pretty sure everyone is in tune with the style of Defense Lebeau runs. and would bring that same style to another team. I wonder if Fox would Snatch Their Linebackers Coach and interview him for DC.. hmm any thoughts?

      Cardinals

Didn't a bunch go to Arizona along with the head coach?
And isn't that where Mularky cut his teeth?

Have you ever BEEN to Pittsburg? You definitely don't want to be grabbing people there.

I think we all saw how far the apple fell from the tree in McD's case.

Or maybe they pay exceptionally well in the steel city

Off topic, we should be the first stadium to outlaw/ban yellow towels

            Dom Capers
            Chan Gailey
            Jim Haslett
            Mike Mularkey
            Ken Whisenhunt
            **** LeBeau
            Marvin Lewis

All those guys were assistant coaches under Bill Cowher in Pittsburgh and were/are head coaches.

But I agree with the OP. You would think more guys from the Tomlin regime would be getting interviewed due to the consistency with the success that organization has seen under Tomlin.

It is puzzling. Steelers have had great D for years, as well as great O. They're almost the perfect (On the field) team.

Thats because they draft in the trenches. When was the last time we worried about our defense and succeeded

I was thinking the same thing. Butler has done wonders with the lbs.

i dont think grabbing a steeler asistant would help that much.

that team is good because that defense is straight up talented. im talking about on all levels.

the dline has pro bowlers in casey hampton, aaron smith, brett keisal.

LB's have pro bowlers in Harrison and Woodley. Then they have rock solid LB's in Farrior and Timmons.

and we all know about the all pro saftey in their secondary.

I envy their defense. the broncos need to just get better talent.

I remember for a number of years the Bengals were constantly trying to copy the Pittsburgh defense and consistently finished bottom 3 in the league.

Everyone in the league is well aware of what they do out in Pittsburgh, it's not like it's a secret. Capers and Lebeau have installed their defenses elsewhere and while they've had success, the very teams they became head coach at eventually scrapped their defense.

It's funny because the Patriots run a pretty conservative version of the Fairbanks-Bullough 3-4 and have had tremendous success over the last decade... What are we doing? Scrapping it.

It takes continuity and talent up front. They can be an ugly defense without say a quality NT.

Steeler assistants probably don't get poached more often because hiring one isn't gonna be a magic formula that'll fix everything. But as pointed out earlier in this thread, they've had assistants move up in the ranks too. No doubt, they've been bad ass over the years though.
You've got to know when to sack em...

Please. Is this really a question?

A list has already been compiled of who has been chosen or left Pitt and we haven't even considered going there since we were so Patriot driven for 2 years.
