  • Phillip Rivers defends Cutler...

    Hard to believe

Rivers, ""He's played in 100-something games," Rivers said. "It's obviously not like he hasn't been hit. It's not like he comes out of a lot of games or misses games. The guy's track record says he plays unless he has a concussion, so it must be bad. Only he knows … Regardless, I really do feel for the guy, not being able to play in the championship game."

The official source for NFL news, video highlights, fantasy football, game-day coverage, schedules, stats, scores and more.

Pretty obvious that certain denverites are taking their free shot at Cutler and talking all the trash they can possibly come up with but even Rivers would say this..

I wonder if people know RIvers sat out the 4th quarter the game before his championship game in 07.

    Take it as you will

I wonder if people know Rivers played the AFCCG with a hurt ACL getting surgery that week of the game.

As much as i hate Rivers, he seems like a great guy off the field. He also had good things to say about Tebow when we drafted him.

He sat out the 4th quarter the game prior. But at the same time, he had a procedure done and they removed the ACL and he had time to prepare the for the game.

Cutler's injury happened during and the medical staff pulled him. As much as Rivers hated Cutler it's just interesting to see this

My point is, give it up, let it go. Stop trying to convince those of us that don't like Cutler to magically like the guy.

Cutler is a baby and a quitter, end of story.

rivers doesn't hate cutler, even when jay was in Denver and trashed all over rivers to the media, rivers responded by having nothing but nice things to say about cutler.

that's just the type of person he is.

No medical staff pulled Quitler, he pulled himself, he came in, he threw one ball, and ran away.

This is what gets me about people like you. NO ONE IS TRYING TO GET YOU TO LIKE CUTLER! The guy has jerk face, terrible mechanics, and his dedication to the game has been called into question. With the media he's usually very distant, and doesn't care what people think about him even if he should at times.

Without question the guy is tough as nails. You don't take the beating he's taken the last two years if you're a quitter. With some of the hits he's taken, I'd have left the field.

We know he played 3 series on the partially torn MCL, and the medical staff pulled him. There's not a debate about this. These are facts. Just because Cutler didn't quit doesn't mean you have to like or respect him. The guy has proven throughout his career that he's as tough as they come.

When Hines Ward had a similar injury in the AFC Championship game 2 years ago, and sat out the 2nd half. No one called him a quitter. Ward is one of the toughest guys in the NFL. No one would call him out. People are using the quit thing to voice their hate for Cutler. You can hate Cutler, you can think he's a jerk, you can think A LOT of things that probably have some merit. To suggest he quit is ignoring factual information because you just don't want it to be true. That's fine, but you should aspire to be a smarter fan.

Anyone saying Cutler is a quitter is dead wrong. He left the field early before the half to get taped up and then took it back to the field for the first series in the third and tried to play through it but he couldn't. So the coaches pulled him along with the medical staff.

I want to see how all the toughguy has beens who "would have had to have been carried off in a stretcher" are going to get back in that game when the coaches and medical staff have benched them.

Not very likely, but lets not let the facts get in the way.

That argument can go both ways, WD. We get that you don't like Cutler... why do you keep coming into these threads trying to convince those you know won't be convinced?

I actually enjoy following the progress of this story, and others do as well. This thread isn't in GD, and complaining about it doesn't really get anyone anywhere.

Demonstrably, it is not the end of the story if as vociferous an opponent as Phillip Rivers comes to his defense.

Rivers himself has the credentials of great physical courage and endurance to vouch for Jay Cutler.

All of you who say 'the medical staff pulled him' need to get a clue. The medical staff told him he couldn't play, he ignored them and went back in. Clearly, the medical staff didn't have the clout to keep him out of the game. Cutler went in for a play, felt he couldn't go and pulled himself.

You can draw your own conclusions about whether Cutler should or shouldn't have played, but making it out to be anything other than his own decision is disingenuous.
