  • NFL's Top 10

I posted this in the Top 100, but that thread has a meandering path ahead. So (I started this one)......and in my books the following players will be in the top 10:

    Tom Brady
    Peyton Manning
    Troy Polamalu
    Drew Brees
    Darrelle Revis
    Julius Peppers
    Andre Johnson
Ray Lewis (as old as he is!!)
    Ed Reed
    Adrian Peterson

Maybe in that order (1 to 10)......I changed it slightly from my previous post....I'll probably change it again....

    Your thoughts?

Polamalu is overated, green bay exposed him but then again tom brady & the patriots do the same every time, the guy is a liability if he has to cover, he plays over his head & takes chances because their front 7 gets so much pressure.

Put him on almost any other team & you won't see the same results.

I agree that he's a little overrated, but the last part is funny...

I'd put Andre Johnson above Revis and Polamalu.

I do happen to be a big Troy fan, so that accounts for some of my ranking.....HOWEVER, check out the Steelers record with him and without him. It's a major swing, and the guy exudes leadership, team and effort, and that's what his mates feel about him. Plus he tends to make a crucial play in the key games.

In fact here's some recent stats (per an article I dug up).....

"The Steelers record without Polamalu in the lineup was a mere 6-7. Polamalu on the field resulted in a record of 16-4. Pretty staggering numbers if you ask me. One other stat to consider when looking at Polamalu’s presence in the lineup is that the Steelers give up 21.5 points/game without him vs. 14.5 points/game with him."

So how many more games would we have won if he played in denver? It's because of the chances he takes, when he's out of the lineup his replacement does not play the same style.

Ask yourself this, how many other safties do you see around the line of scrimage as much as him? He can play that way when there is constant pressure. But when you spread the field with 4 & 5 wide forget it.

And what's the record agaist the patriots, they torch pittsburgh every year because he can't cover well at all.

                  Fitz is great no doubt.......

As for Peppers......in my opinion, without him the Bears may not have made the playoffs. I believe he won 2-3 games for them.

Okay.....listen, I said Troy is one of my favs, so I am a bit loyal here. BUT........Pittsburgh is a different team without him, AND the players voted him in the Top 10. Unless he didn't make the Top 100 (ha ha), and I've made an error (or more) in deducting the Top 10.

Peyton Manning (IMO Manning is always first, because Dungy is no Belichick)
                        Tom Brady
Troy Polamalu (grudging him for the scheme he plays in while not doing the same for Brady and Manning isn't fair)
                        Adrian Peterson
                        Ed Reed
                        Julius Peppers
                        Drew Brees
                        Darrelle Revis
                        Andre Johnson
Ray Lewis (as old as he is!!)
Hoping for a defensive-minded head coach and a return to the ZBS on offense. At the very least, no more cheaters for head coach.

I would put Revis above Johnson due to the fact Revis has won there battle as of late.

This is using the the last 10 players that were left from the NFL's list.

My top-10 list would look different -

                            1. Manning
                            2. Brady
                            3. Demarcus Ware
                            4. Polamalu
                            5. Adrian Peterson
                            6. Rothlisberger
                            7. Champ Bailey
                            8. Ed Reed
                            9. Julius Peppers
                            10. Larry Fitzgerald
Hoping for a defensive-minded head coach and a return to the ZBS on offense. At the very least, no more cheaters for head coach.
