I never wished for the Browns to lose. I KNEW they were going to lose. Just like I KNOW the Browns will not have a winning season. I get my hope up EVERY YEAR. I have sat here since I was a kid saying "Things will get better". Well, guess what? Things NEVER got better. A greedy owner stole the team. Then, the city of Cleveland had to SUE to even have the Browns stay in Cleveland. Then, when the team finally returned - did the NFL give the Browns a nice pool for the "expansion draft" like they did the Panthers, Jaguars, and Texans (when they eventually came into existance)? No, the NFL said, naw. Let's have the best player available to you be Jim Pyne. Also, let's give you a year to rebuild your entire front office. Great, thanks Pal. I really preciate that.
Then, failure after failure after failure. The team starts to make good moves, starts to gel. Oh, it is time to fire the head coach again and start from scratch. The Browns are CONSTANTLY rebuilding. They are constantly getting whatever they have build up and then tearing it down and rebuilding again only to tear that down and start over.
Then, the Browns hire a coach that is unlike all the others they have hired since returning. Instead of hiring a college coach or a hotshot coordinator, they get an experienced head coach (sure only a couple of years of experience, but better than nothing). The team struggles, that's ok, growing pains. Then, they fire him! Guess what the team does then? Take one guess - they rebuild again.
The Browns have had 16 quarterbacks start for them since returning in 1999. Guess how many head coaches and interim head coaches? SIX. Six head coaches in 12 years. I'm not great, but even I can tell that the average coach in Cleveland stays for 2 years. Let me put that into Denver terms for you. That is like the Broncos hirind Josh McDaniels every other year. That is, a coach that comes in cuts productive players (like he did in Denver) only to be fired and replaced by a coach that cuts productive players. Then, after 12 years of that, you say enough is enough and that the FRONT OFFICE and OWNERSHIP need to knock this crap off.
I want to get my hopes up, I do. But then something called my Brain comes in and tells me - "Why? You know exactly what is going to happen, hell, instead of getting optimistic this offseason like you do EVERY YEAR. Put your expectations extremely low, and see if they even match that."
Well, the team came out. Ran three plays, gained three yards, punted for 20 yards. Then watched as the Bengals got a touchdown. Then, you say "oh, don't worry, they are going to do something now." Only to see them run three more plays that result in a loss of nearly 20 yards. Only to see them have another crappy punt and watch as the other team scores a field goal. Only to see your team punt again after having even more penalties. The Browns finished the FIRST quarter with 18 TOTAL yards of offense, and 10 penalties for 60 some yards.
Sorry, but my "optimist" button is broken. The Browns were stolen from me when I was 11 years old. I didn't get to see another Browns game untill I was in High School. Now? Another 12 years have gone by. I am almost 30 now. Patience, patience, patience is all I've been hearing since I was a kid. Now, here comes yet another guy that is supposed to "fix everything" - Shurmur. Just like Chris Palmer, just like Butch Davis, just like Romeo Crennel and just like Terry Robiskie. It is an endless cycle.Last edited by Charlie Brown; 09-11-2011, 09:24 PM.Comment

I've been saying for over a week now that the Browns would LOSE to the Bengals. Everyone said "no, no, no the Browns are better than the Bengals. Browns have Holmgren and Shurmur and they know QB's ... McCoy is going to do great."
I told them all flat out, no, they are wrong. The Browns will do horrible and will lose to the Bengals on Sunday. Well, Sunday is going to end soon and unless the final score changed .. the Browns lost to the Bengals.
You just gotta laugh. I went to the game and sat right next to the Dawg Pound. I just got in my seat when I heard, "Number 12 Colt McCoy's pass is complete to number 12 Colt McCoy". I shook my head and laughed. Only the Browns could start the season like that.Comment
