  • Is Tom Brady the Biggest Steal of All Time?

As we approach the combine I still have to kind of look back and laugh. Tom Brady was slected in the 6th round of the 2000 NFL draft as the 199th pick of that draft. Was he the biggest steal of all time?

I sure think so. Not even a 2nd rounder like Drew Brees. WOW!

    Yes he is
    93.75%

    No (other/please explain)
    6.25%

    The poll is expired.

Based on the fact that he has 3 SB rings, probably. But i'd still have to look at players like Rod Smith, Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe, The crazy DT from the Vikings that's now in the HOF (I'm having a brain fart right now)

Well, technically.... Rod Smith wouldn't have been a steal. He came into the NFL as an unrestricted free agent if I remember right. A steal (at least for the purposes of this thread) is someone who is taken in the NFL draft at a lower posiiton and turns out to be amazing (like Tom Brady. )

Gotcha :thumb: But i'd have to think that Rod being an UDFA is even more of a steal, just because he went undrafted. But to stay on topic Shannon Sharpe was definately a steal, especially considering the fact that he didn't go to a D1 school like Brady.

Yah that's true. Shannon Sharpe was a stud!!! *Sorry I meant UDFA Not URFA. *

Can you imagine if Tom Brady had Rod Smith too?

            John Randle.

And I'd say Roger Staubach in the 10th round of the draft was a bigger steal. He lost 5 years of his career to military service, imagine what he could have accomplished with that (he won 2 superbowls and went to 5 in only 10 years.)

Bart Starr (17th round, 2 superbowl MVPs) and Johnny Unitas (9th round pick) deserve honourary mentions.

As much as I respect Tom Brady. I truly believe that 90% of the credit for his success and fame should go to Belichick. As much of a snake in the grass as he is, the man is truly a football genius. He built a system around Tom and made him the legend he is.

Dont get me wrong.. Brady is VERY good.. I just think that his coaching determined the difference between "very good" and "legend"

                As a Michigan fan, yes.

As a Michigan fan, I'm surprised Brady is where he is right now, rather you give the credit to Bill or to Brady.

He didn't have the most or close to most TD's from a Michigan QB, we as fans considered him just above average.

Based on ranks, he has the 6th most passing yards in Michigan, 5th rank in pass completions.

He didn't do things in his college career that made people think of him as a future NFL Hall Of Famer, arguably a first ballot hall of famer.

Shannon Sharpe would be the 2nd biggest steal, sure some Chargers and Raiders fans would cry in say Elway made him good. But whatever.

Rod Smith is the biggest UDFA steal.
