  • Met RG3 and Colt McCoy at Davey O'Brien awards, and talked about Manning

    Hi all Bronco fans.

Have been reading the boards for 2 years but just joined. Yes, it is because of Tebow and I am a Gator. However, I have been following Broncos and learned a lot about the teams and their passionate fans.

My husband's group is on the board and is a sponsor for the Davey O'Brien awards and we have been going for the last 3 years. This year, me being a big fan of RG3, got a VIP pass to meet him and take pictures with him. He is super nice, witty and very very smart. About 1000 people show up to the black tie event and everyone was very happy and excited for RG3, unlike last year when Cam newton won. He had attitude and it did not go over very well with the people. His coach didn't even show up. Actually his dad and none of the Auburn people showed up. I am one of few women who come, because I am a football freak. So many football greats come every year. Jim Mcmahon, Troy Aikman, etc.

We sat at the sponsor's table, which means we get to sit right in front of the winner and with one of the past winners of Davey O'Brien awards. This year, it was Colt McCoy and his wife Rachel. She is beautiful and tall. 6'tall. They are too nice. He is so sweet. Almost too sweet to play football. My husband is a Neurosurgeon along with his partners. There were 3 Neurosurgeons and a neurologist and naturally, along with Colt, the conversation turned to Peyton Manning's recovery. One surgeon said, he is one hit away from a wheelchair and with everything he has done in his career why would he risk it? One partner said, as long as he is okay, he can play but his arm will never quite be the same. My husband said if it was our son, he would not let him play. Too much risk. I do have to say my husband along with his partners do not know all the details or specifics of his surgeries but based on what they have read these were their thoughts.

I know there are a lot of conversations about wanting Manning in Denver, but I think it's too risky. Let Tebow Play for a year and if he doesn't pan out move on.

By the way, I was not there when Tebow won in 2009. I was sick. I am sick just thinking about not being there. I have been following him since his Freshmen year in Florida. I also want to mention that the people were just mesmerized by Tebow when he won. Apparently he had a long standing ovation. He won over the whole crowd as my husband's partner teases me. He knows I am a big Tebow fan. Usually the past winner come after few years and he promised me if Tebow comes he would make sure Tim will sit at our table.

I know how it goes here. Pics or it didn't happen. so here it is.

    Go Broncos!!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I do however wonder, why so many are willing to take a risk on Manning. I know he is one of the greatest, however, he won't be any good when injured again. Just curious. Based on most of neurosurgeons, I know, and I know plenty, they are very hesistant to say he will be full form. Of course, Manning could prove us all wrong, but the risk is nonetheless high.

Great post. Sadly I agree that Peyton's time is about up but I think you will see Tebow get a fair shot as a full time starter next year. Manning will cost too much money to be considered.
Hate List for 2016-2017 Season: 1. Oakland, 2. New England, 3. Kansas City, 4. Pittsburgh and 5. Houston (yes, Houston....)

I am positive that if he is in a healthy enough position to play he will and that if he is risking real long term damage he wont. Manning is a smart guy and I am sure he wouldnt play if they said "look man 50% chance you end up in a wheel chair"

I am sure he is receiving the best care available to him and without seeing what his DRs see we are all just really 'guessing'

                Thanks for the post.

                Welcome to the boards.

I seriously doubt Manning will come here....
or that the team is interested in paying the hefty tab to get him.

lol good luck telling your 40 year old son not to play.

Also, its terrible that the doctors are speculating without even knowing the severity of his injury.

I have a mole on my ass, am i gonna die doc?

Any more "terrible" than all the speculation that runs rampant on this board?

                      Seriously I LOL'd.

Lol, my son is 9 years old and fortunately he has no desire to play football. My husband has seen too many brain damage/traumas related to sports. Not just football, but baseball and soccer. My kids are computer game freaks. I am the only one who watches pro football in our house. Hubby watches College.

It is not a speculation, as my husband and his partners do these types of surgery on weekly if not daily basis. I am not in the medical field, however, to the detail of where Peyton incision was on his neck to several of medical talk. There was intense conversation about manning at the awards dinner. In the neurosurgry community, they are wary. I would say they have a better understanding of where Manning is at vs regular public.
