  • Question?: A completely unbias and honest answer

Do you feel that in the future Eli Manning will be considered in the same category as Elway in the clutch?

  • #2
No, but that always can change. Right now I think he would go down as one of the better ones, but he is lacking that defining drive.

Not really. He'll go down as a very good QB, possibly HOF, but I don't think he'll ever be in the GOAT discussion.

              Hard to tell.

I need to see what he does without the best defensive pass rush in the NFL on his side.

Actually, the Giants defense and run game stunk almost all year and Eli carried them through until they got it together in week #16. Almost every win was come from behind in the 4th quarter. It was just that Tebow was getting the attention for that. The first game against Dallas was magnificent.

Just looked it up. In the regular season the Giants defense ranked #27 and the running game ranked #32

+!, they had alot of injury and eli carry the team the whole regular season.

Depends on how his career finishes.
Right now he is one of the most clutch active QB's in the game.

He has a long way to go before he's anywhere near that status. The first SB win was ALL the defense (especially the pass rush) and one miracle prayer he threw up. Eli has only started being looked at as clutch in the last few years, so he needs to have a lot more of that in his career to be up there with the top clutch players of all time.
2 of the top 3 NFL QBs of all time have been Broncos

Eli had five or six fourth quarter comebacks in 2011. If it weren't for Tebow, the media would have been all over that. I believe at this point in time, you have to start looking at putting the elite tag on Eli. If it weren't for the fact of him being Peyton's little brother, he would be in the discussion.

purely in terms of clutch performance, yes..he may even be considered THE greatest clutch QB ever

but at times, clutchness can be overrated..that may sound dumb on the surface, but if you think about it players often get way too much credit for plays they make at the right time

plays that are really just opportunity, and any average player would be expected to make

like Porters interceptions of Favre and Manning in the 09 playoffs..they were terrible throws, and they just happened to be his way

or Matthews fumble force of Mendenhall in the SB...he came in unblocked, the ball was horribly secured and he hadnt had a chance to start running...nothing about it was impressive

the Manning to Tyree play is one of them as well...it was a great play, by Tyree...Manning getting out of the sack was largely a result of Ty Warren just not finishing, and the throw wasnt all that great..Tyree made a great catch

basically, its easy to point at plays that happened at the right time and call the guy who made it a hero..but its often just opportunity, and luck..due to a screw up by the other player/team

indeed they did..but I hate when people point to that and say "now you dont need defense and run game to win"

if the Giants D hadnt stiffened up the way they did, and their run game didnt get better, they would have likely lost to ATL before they even had a chance to face GB(who would have killed them had not for d and run game)..that is if they had even made it through the Jets game

It also bothers me when people make that out as a knock on Eli though, because it isnt. The whole "he has to be able to carry the team on his back" is a myth...no team, no matter how good a pass game can win without some form of a run game..and a defense in the playoffs

teams who won SBs after sucking in those 2 departments did it because they stiffened up in the postseason
