Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

I respect the heck out of Mike Shanahan. I don't believe we win our Super Bowls in the 90's without his genius offensive scheme.
Having said that, his stint in Washington has been a clear indication to me that a) the Broncos made the right choice in firing him; and b) he's nowhere near the coach he once was.
Maybe it's time for Shanahan to step aside after this season (if Snyder doesn't outright fire him, that is)?
Shanahan's time was up here, but what happened to BUILDING a team over 5 years.
Just because the Skins are struggling now doesn't mean you just cut the HC. They have some good talent on that team and a good QB in his rookie year.
I just hate the instant culture of having to win in 2-3 years or your gone. If you take the time to pick out the HC you want to lead the team then give him time.
A very good example would be Kubiak in Houston, patience pays off.

I guess a bad example would be Norv lol
The thing about Shanahan though is that the same problems that plagued him in the last few years here followed him to Washington.
Struggling to score points despite lots of yards. Knee-jerk reactions. Bad evaluator of defensive talent and coaches. Team falls apart down the stretch.
Until he's willing to concede he can't be a head coach AND de facto GM, it won't suddenly get better for him.
he has time right now to build it. With RG3 being a rookie, he will have 2 more years to build a contender. Unfortunately, he has little in terms of draft picks and is one RG3 injury from people questioning if its time for him to go.
What's the difference between ignorance and apathy?
I don't know and I don't care
Mike Shanahan is quite possibly the best offensive mind for RG3 to reach his immensely high ceiling. Let Shanny develop him and eventually he'll hit on a draft pick here and there and that team will be good. Plus they lost Orakpo, Davis, Garcon, Carriker, Merriweather, Jamaal Brown, and Trent Williams is banged up. If Brown can come back and Williams can get healthy that o-line can finally start to gel and play better. Garcon and Davis would help them out a lot but they're both hurt. Merriweather, Carriker, and Orakpo all figured to be big parts of the defense particularly Orakpo. And then they have Tanard Jackson who was suspended for the year. When your best pass rusher and your best safeties are hurt and you have Madieu Williams and Reed Doughty starting in place of those safeties, your defense won't be good.
Mike Shanahan isn't an unproven coach or a coach with a bad track record. He won 2 super bowls and had a very good record here with us. He'll get a little more time than most new coaches do because he's already proven that he can put a good team out there.
Well he did lose his top two defenders. Can't say it's his fault the defense is bad when he doesn't really have any impact players anymore.
Exactly. Not only his top two defenders, but his top two pass-catchers as well, on a young team with a rookie QB. Shanahan will have this team as a championship contender in two years. They have an extremely good front 7, a typically strong running game. They need to improve their secondary, get another pass-catcher for RG3 (that Garcon signing was looking really good before he got hurt) and let the young QB develop in the system. He doesn't need first-round picks for this.
I know a few Giants fans. Let's just say Tuck is not the only one who's pissed about having to deal with Washington for the next decade.
As beastlyskronk said, Shanahan is the perfect coach for RG3 (or any rookie QB for that matter). Washington has a great setup in place. They have the key positions (QB, LT, pass-rushers) nailed down. They have one of the best coaches in the league. All they need now is for Snyder to shut up, stay out of the way and not pull a Bowlen.
Hoping for a defensive-minded head coach and a return to the ZBS on offense. At the very least, no more cheaters for head coach.

They have plenty of draft picks. Not having a first-rounder is only a hindrance if you don't have your key positions (QB, LT, pass-rusher) not addressed. The needs that Washington has are mainly in the secondary, which can easily be addressed in the second round and lower.

I think Shanny will get one more year. I think Snyder would be lacking in wisdom if he took Shanny away from RG3 at the end of this year.
No doubt. The other wrinkle is by firing Mike Shanahan, they will also end up losing Kyle Shanahan, who is one of the brightest young offensive minds in the league today. They are set for the next decade IMO with Shanahan Sr. calling the shots for the next few years and his son taking over from him and continuing that rapport with the franchise QB. Continuity and stability are huge in the NFL.

Its amazing how people are making excuses for him, because if this was a player saying the exact thing...people on this board would be crucifying him....
And for the people that says he has no team,he's the one who pick those players...I mean really how can you defend a guy that hand picked those players and then turn around and say the team sucks...I dont understand that logic, this is the reason why he was let go in Denver, because his evaluation of talent is bad......If this was any other coach, everybody would be saying he needs to go and etc,but since this is Mike Shannahan,he gets a pass even though he pick those bad players....

The guy has lost some really good players to injury. Call it what you want but if you lose some of your best players to injury, your chances of being successful are quite low. If doom and miller went down, you think our defense wouldn't suffer as a result?

I understand that but people are giving him a pass, what he said....Can you imagine if a player said the same exact thing alot of members would be killing him....On top of that people act like Shannhan didnt put that team together....
All season people been talking about how bad the defense been but everyone wants to say "He dont have a good defense",well he's the one who hand picked the players...they should blame him, instead of acting like those players came on the team out of nowhere....
