  • Chargers interested in Lovie Smith

Just saw on ESPN that the Chargers are interested in Lovie Smith. Andy Reid in the Kansas City and then Lovie Smith in San Diego? Ouch.

I would say Lovie in your division is a rough hire. I've criticised him here lately (and agree with his firing) but Lovie gets the most out of his roster (which sort of makes him the anti-Norv). The worst you are going to get out of him is a team with a barely winning record. And the Chargers have some and, vitally, a QB. I think he turns them around in a season or two, and after that they'll be a tough out for you guys (especially when Peyton's done).

Norv has been a blessing for you guys for many years. And I assure you Lovie will not accept a team that goes on holiday until November and December.

I really think someone should employ him, and that he'll be a great hire wherever he goes, especially if he can find a strong OC (the only real issue that plagued him in Chicago).

Well considering he said he wants to coach here...maybe it is a harder choice than you believe

Chargers would be a good landing spot for Lovie. You can bet the defense would get better under Lovie. On offense though the Chargers have a lot of the same proplems that Chicago has starting with a crap OL. Plus I would never expect Lovie to find the right OC.

All kidding aside................as a fan do you really want him????? Your underachiving D would would improve, but Lovie does not know offense, in 8 of his 9 years in Chicago his offense was rated in the lower third of the league. In four tries Lovie was never able to find an OC worth a damn.

I do want him because he is the best out there. We aren't getting Kelly, Ray Horton seems like a long shot, and the favorites seem like Lovie and Whisenhunt. I certainly don't want Whiz, he's barely a step up from Gailey. Lovie would make our defense great, it is the unit we have all of the money put into. I do worry about his choice of OC but I've heard suggestions of Hue Jackson. That combo would be amazing!

I don't think the Chargers offense would be all that bad under Lovie Smith. Rivers seems to be a lot more level headed than Jay Cutler and doesn't seem to be the turn over machine that Cutler has been at times. Sure Chicago couldn't seem to find a decent OC but Jay hurt that offense just as much with his turn overs. San Dango would do a lot better under Lovie than Chicago did, and you can thank Cutler for that.

No doubt here in Chicago it was time for Lovie to go. If it is Lovie I agree Hue Jackson could be his best hire for OC. Jackson has a huge ego and under Lovie he would have full control of the offense and not have his HC looking over his shoulder. With no input from the HC Jackson's ego would not be an issue.

                        Lets see.

Rivers turnovers since 2009...........76, he has 57 int's 19 fum lost.

Cutler turnovers since 2009...........77, he has 63 int's 14 fum lost.

Rivers turnovers since 2010..........64, That's 48 int's 16 fum lost, Cutler in that same period 40 turnovers, 27 int's 13 fum. lost. Seems like Rivers is regresssing, while Cutler is improving. Don't lay the blame for Lovie's getting fired at Cutler's feet. Lovie's offenses have always sucked.

Unless Lovie could find the right OC the Chargers O would suffer just like his Bears teams did dating back to 2004.
