In the event McDaniels ever became an NFL HC again, he would most likely have great difficulty putting together a good staff.

Say it isn't so! With the people skills exhibited by Joshy you would think he would be able to put a staff together in about a millennium.

If I'm true to the title, it appears he has chosen not to go anywhere this year.

I can understand the other side of the equation......do teams want someone who had a very controversial first kick at the cat. Yes, he did some foolish things here. Unlike some fans, I try to move forward, because who cares about the past when your team is the #1 Seed and apparent SB favs (based on the polls I've seen). We are where we want to be, and nothing that McDaniels did matters to me right now. Heck, some of his draft picks are playing some good ball for us. In that regard, some fans should also move on. You can tell that they haven't, anytime someone makes a positive comment about a certain player that McD chose. That doesn't resonate with me, and is very narrow in focus.

I also believe that he was not provided mentorship when he was our HC......had Elway been here at the time, things would have progressed in a different manner. McD had far too much authority, whether he wanted it or not. But whatever....

Bottom line....we have a real shot this year, under Peyton Manning, and life is pretty sweet!

I think the reason for this is exactly what everyone has already mentioned. McDaniels has proven to be a prolific OC, but doesn't seem to have the charisma and strategic vision to be a head coach.

For those who say that McDaniels has no talent, I'd offer up the fact that he made both Matt Cassel and Kyle Orton look like perennial pro-bowlers in the single seasons he coached them. He clearly has the X's and O's talent, just no people skills.

Oh, and I might mention, McDaniels did alright picking Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker...Yes, they're not Calvin Johnson - like elite WRs, but few are. At least they're pretty damn good and only getting better.

It's hard to mentor a guy who thinks he knows everything.

I think he would have listened to Elway. Not saying he would have been much better as a result, but he needed someone to control his misguided approach.

In fact he engaged Elway to help the team in the off season 2010 - and the story broke that Elway had been Persona NonGrata with Shanahan, as they couldn't quite agree who was the person most responsible for the SB wins.

In fact JMD made sure that we are not entering the 8th season behind Jay Cutler - the coach killer and excuse machine.

CanDB as usual provide a balanced sane perspective

Yeah, can't believe how well everything's worked out. A bit surreal.

Do you think John Elway would have hired Josh McDaniels?

If you had been GM/VPFO and you had a HC whose approach you felt was "misguided", what would you do?

Is "misguided" an accurate characterization of Josh McDaniels when he was HC of the Broncos?
