Jerome Bettis is a finalist and TD is out. Really?? Bettis over TD? Lets look at some stats

    STAT TD Bettis
    ALL pro 3 3
    Pro Bowl 3 6
    SB wins 2 1
    SB MVP 1 0
    NFL MVP 1 0
Player of the year 3 0
    2000 yard season 1 0
    rushing yards 7607 13662
    receiving yards 1280 1449
    TD/season 9.2 7.2
    rush average 4.6 3.9
    years with 10+ TD 3 2

What a joke Jerome Bettis is a finalist and TD is out. The only thing Bettis has over him is years played and more total yards. They were All Pros 2 years together (96 and 97) and in both years TD was the better RB. Bettis wasn't even the rushing leader once in his career. Either they both deserve to be out or TD should be in way ahead of Bettis.

    Its ridiclous.

Furthermore how can the great Orange Crush defense have ZERO members? No Gradishar? No Atwater?

Besides our shortcomings for the Hall of Fame...How has Chris Carter, arguably the 2nd best receiver ever, not made it in yet? And then theres poor Andre Reed who should get in and just never will.

But yea, Canton screws us over year after year generally.

To sum things up without writing a book, it's simple, people think it's the system more than the player. And as long as Shanny keep turning 6th picks - UDFAs into 1,000 yds + rushers, TD will never get looked at as a HOFer.

There is a valid point to that but my response to those HoF voters is...how many league/SB MVPs has Shanny made out of those running backs?

True. But the voters probably won't care about League/SB MVPs when they can't see past the system.

TD had a great first 4 years to start off his career, but that's pretty much it. Since I'm a Broncos fan I know what an impact he made on this team, but other people do not. They look and only see a guy who had a great 4 year span. Unfortunately that's not good enough to get into the HoF in a lot of voters' minds. It's a sad situation, but I'm starting to doubt whether TD will ever get in.

A similar situation would be: If Arian Foster had a 2000 yard season and won the Super Bowl next year, would he immediately be HoF material in your eyes (without ever having to do anything else in his career)? They would have very comparable stats over a similar time span in a similar offensive system. If you'd say yes, then you should also vote TD in. But if you do not think that would be enough, then you'd have to hold him out.

I don't expect our guys to ever get in, the HOF people hate us for some reason. When we do get in, i'm pleasantly surprised.

TD will get in. So will Atwater, Gradishar and Mecklenburg. Just gonna take a while. It is what it is.

It was a league wide consensus for 3 or 4 years that TD was the best all around back in the league.

Yep, during that timespan there was no back in the league that could completely control a game like him. Bettis was a great running back, and he deserves to be in, but at no point in his career did anyone ever consider him "the best" at his position.

There's a difference between being a system running back and the performances TD put on display. He's also my favorite Bronco ever so I will continue to be biased, thank you.

agreed. Something Curtis Martin and Bettis can never claim. That was also during the time when Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders were both playing.
